That is so bizzare. I switched from PCEP to PCDA so maybe it’s different now.
They emailed saying there’s no timeframe for the vetting registration even though they doing references
When I went to day 2 one of the officers said that pcep would be looking to before the end of the year

I’m assuming you’re talking about day 1.
There’s 3 different assessments. One is a competency scenario based which I would suggest having examples scenarios related to each value
The next is a written exercise which was related to ASB with electric scooters. It’s a comprehension exercise, essentially you’re given a briefing and some news articles and you need to collate the information for your sergeant
The final one is a mix of both, role playing reasoning. You go through a scenario and you need to speak about what your actions as an officer would be.
The written exercise is probably the easiest as the other two you’re basically speaking to your camera.
I passed mine back in April and then day 2 about 6 weeks later

In the Met, the vetting is supposed to have a 3-month time limit, so they won't complete it until they know you have a potential start date. They can run PCEPs any time they like by just putting on another class at Hendon. PCDAs can only be run when the university has allocated a course. So if the next PCDA course isn't until Sept or Oct, they won't run your vetting until they know that you'll meet the vetting window. i.e. if vetting lasts 3 months, they won't start it until probably July.

Ah okay that makes sense with the vetting thank you.

I find it unlikely that there won't be any PCEP courses at all - the Met is so big that it needs a certain number of new people just to stay in existence.

The thing with the PCDA courses is that they will always happen because they have been pre-paid for upfront (or at least the contracts are locked in) and the money is being wasted if there are not enough people on them.

If you've got your vetting back, then good luck. PCDA is a tough course. Any idea where you want to go in borough policing?

I haven’t got my vetting back yet I’ve just finally been enrolled on it
I’d likely be NW as my uncle served in this borough and I put that as my first choice but it’s ultimately not up to me
I’m not too worried with PCDA as I have 2 degrees already and I’m prioritising a start date rather than an easier route

I'm surprised they let you on PCDA if you're a graduate. Problem with NW is that its so big - I put down to go to Barnet back in the day before the BCUs. They gave me Hillingdon - which I couldn't get to for earlies. I filled out a form and they sent me to Camden, which I really enjoyed.

You shouldn’t have switched, they are just emailing everyone so everybody go for the PCDA because nobody is doing it.
I received the emailed as well. They said that most likely you will get a start date this year for PCDA and when I asked when they said there is no timefrane But I denied, I said I will stick to PCEP, and guess what, I called them like 1-2 weeks ago. And now they said you might as well get start date for PCEP soon. So let’s see and hope for the best.
They kinda trick you to switch to PCDA.

^^ I'm afraid to say that this has a ring of truth about it.

Yeah the officer mentioned it at Kennington but said it’ll likely be December start date.
I actually don’t mind the PCDA route personally

As long as you're sure.

If you have been to university before and have degrees, my advice would be to get the degree part knocked out as soon as possible and have your dissertation basically written as soon as you know what the criteria are- no matter what the quality so long as it will scrape a pass. The problem with the PCDA isn't so much that the degree is difficult - its that the course structure makes everyone's life difficult. You're essentially trying to learn three completely different things all at the same time. 1) Policing law / policy & written skills; 2) Practical policing; 3) a policing degree - and they are all competing for your time at the same time. Once you get out on borough, you will have protected time interspersed across the years of your course - and this is where it becomes a mare, as invariably once people have been on team, as far as they're concerned they're operational police officers and the last thing they want to do is go back to uni for weeks of lectures on critical theory of criminology or whatever. In the meantime, they have crimes going smelly, victims and witnesses not hearing from them, cases with actions all over the place, bail returns and so on. It sucks for the student, it sucks for the team (who have to deal with officers randomly being off) and it sucks for the victims of crime. On top of all that, your probation lasts for 3 years.

You won't hear anything for a while my application has been on going for over a year now.1 Year and two months. I was on the vetting stage two months into vetting before they decided to cancel everyone's vetting. If you want me to be honest you won't get a start date till next year summer. There's so many people that have been backlogged people like myself. 6 months ago they put out that email with the recruitment being freeze. Honestly no body knows anything so right now its just a waiting game and people who have been waiting longer id assume will be prioritised. If you don't hear anything from the vetting team between now up august then you definitely wont get a start date till some point next year. If I was you id just do something else for now or join a different force like BTP.
