How is Cambridge Maths School?

Hi All,

I am considering doing A levels at Cambridge Maths School. However, as the school is new there is limited information. Anyone here knows what it is like to study there? Also how does it compare vs. say Imperial or King's Maths School?

If you search this site, you will find several current and past students of all the schools talk about what it's like to study there.

Kings was one of the first two maths schools in the country and its A level results are phenomenal. But don't be put off the other two schools who will only have their first A level results in August.

All four maths schools that have been open for at least three years (Kings, Exeter, Liverpool and Lancaster) have excellent overall results and the average student progress made, taking into account that many of their students are already high achieving when they start at 16.

There are a few things to be aware of including some subtle differences. The schools are small with around 50-80 places per year. The sites are small too with just a few classrooms. They all offer slightly different subjects on top of Maths and Further Maths. Imperial lets you do a 4th A level at Woodhouse College next door. Kings doesn't offer biology but offers Economics etc.

All of them offer impressive looking extra and super curricular activities. Imperial and Kings by virtue of being in London seem to do quite a lot of cultural activities. Cambridge maths school seems to have excellent links with local companies and its location means it is close to many top technology companies who all have research centres in Cambridge like Arm, Apple, Microsoft and Raspberry Pi.

All the schools will have open evenings around October time so you should try to go (Kings was online only this year, probably due to the very large number of students interested in going.)

All the schools run outreach programmes with events in and out of school terms so check their websites to see if any are of interest.

I'm sure you would get an excellent education at any of them but you need to compare them to other non-specialist schools too.
