You can, yes. Don't forget to include details of your current studies in the Education section of your UCAS application.

Have you considered the impact this will have on any student loan? They'll cover you for the standard length of the course you join, plus one year, less any years from your current course. So it won't cover all of the Medicine degree if you also study second year Pharmacy whilst you await Medicine decisions.

Are you planning to resit the UCAT?

Hi thanks for you reply,
I do plan on resitting the ucat
However I spoke to uni’s and they said I can’t stay on the pharmacy course whilst submitting an application or it will be an automatic reject. I’m just worried that if I drop out and don’t get into medicine I will have nothing left to do unless I repeat my pharmacy year.

Do you know if as a drop out my chances of getting into medicine are lowered?

Understood.

Glasgow say here that:

"However, applicants who have commenced the first year of a degree programme other than medicine can apply through UCAS and have their application considered for entry to Year 1, providing they meet our standard entry requirements, with required grades/qualifications obtained within seven years of the proposed entry date.

Applicants who have commenced Year 2 or more of their degree studies will need to complete their undergraduate degree and apply via our graduate route."

I see no similar restriction mentioned on the Edinburgh web site. However, if you have contacted them and been told that you "can’t stay on the pharmacy course whilst submitting an application or it will be an automatic reject" then you should assume that's accurate.

In terms of whether your chances of a successful application would be lowered if you were to drop-out of Pharmacy and reapply, Glasgow say here that: "The school will consider a re-application as a “fresh application.” You must re-sit the UCAT test."

Edinburgh, again, are silent in the issue.

As you have correctly observed, if you drop out and don’t get into medicine you will not be in a good situation. Is that really worth the risk?

hi, I agree I don't know if the risk is worth taking. I did some research and I was looking at this graduate entry medicine programme in Scotland called SCOT-GEM do you know much about it?

thanks

I've not heard of it, no. However, I have heard that graduate entry medicine (GEM) generally is even more competitive than undergraduate medicine.

If you finish your pharmacy degree and practice as a pharmacist for a couple of years, you can apply to HCP-Med at Edinburgh.
It’s a 5 year course for healthcare professionals and is fully funded by the Scottish funding council.
Check their website, it’s an amazing opportunity.
