i'm gonna stay on at my school's sixth form, it's rlly good and i feel quite comfortable here
i've looked into some courses at colleges nearby but none of them rlly took my fancy, and i'd prefer a classroom environment asw!

That sounds good. If you don’t mind me asking, what subjects will you take?

science is EASILY what i find hardest.
for sci, dt and geog, i use this thing called remnote, it's a mix btwn google docs and anki bc you can write out notes and then rlly easily convert them into flashcards! it uses an algorithm to give u cards u struggle w more often and i find it SUPER helpful. it's rlly time consuming to make them tho, so, maybe do it at the start of easter. idk abt how much less is in combined than separate, but should be rlly helpful! will be lots of vids abt it online.
if u do AQA Geography i am INSANELY jealous of you because you get tonnes of youtube vids online, if not, there are tonnes of textbooks u can use. to make my Remnotes for geog, i used a mix of the textbook, the specification and my class work (which was lacking in some parts).

ONLY revise what's on the spec bc that's all you will be tested on - make sure you know it to a really good depth!

for DT: application, application, application. i lowk use my NEA research to help me revise for it, a lot of the stuff was in there. and link it to ur other subjects! SO much of it links to geography, as well as chemistry/biology paper 2, and the energy stuff in physics paper 1 asw! make sure you ANSWER the question, look at the key words in it, and the command words, and it's bbq chicken from there

taking maths, geography, spanish as they are what i find easiest and i wanna do geography stuff as a career. and i love spanish/latin culture!

I don’t take Spanish but I take french, do you have any tips for the speaking because mines in two weeks and I feel if I get a high score in that then I can sacrifice marks in the listening 😭

lol igu speaking is so hard (listening is the worst)
get a good knowledge of your chosen theme's vocab! I've chosen theme 3 (school stuff) because i find it easiest, but most people in my class choose theme 2 (environment, world etc) because it's hardest. remember that your chosen theme CANNOT come up in the photo card, so, if you find the photo card really hard, choose your hardest theme so hopefully you get an easier one there.
if you struggle with managing time in the prep time, practice it loads! remember the role play doesn't need extended answers AT ALL so make them short and sweet - i usually spend 3 mins on role play and 9 mins on photo card - depends on how difficult it is tho.
if you've started memorising general convo answers, carry on going. but if you haven't, no point in starting now i think you'll just forget them all. go into the exam knowing ROUGHLY what you're gonna say. for example, for my mocks, i told myself i would mention:

doing a maths challenge next term

i walk to school to help the environment

i love chewing gum, even though it's against the school rules

etc

get some key phrases in there - complex structures, idiomatic phrases.
and go talk in french to someone in ur class at lunch. u can practice together! and don't be afraid to correct each other lol.

sorry for the yap, hope it helps, my speaking is after easter, u got this and we in this tg!

Im thinking Spanish, maths and then I applied for French but I’m not sure if I should change it to be honest, cuz the history bit seems boring, so now I’m thinking about law or geography.

ooh cool! (so we'd be doing the exact same stuff. that is MEGA cool imo. everyone is so judgmental when i tell them my stuff bc they either hate maths or hate geog or hate spanish. nice to have someone in the same boat!)

what i WOULD say about law is that i've seen on a few things (and heard from a few people) that unis don't necessarily like it if you want to do law, i think it's ok for the other stuff but they would rather see a more broad/open range or smth like that, idk exactly!

Yes omg same. It’s like I haven’t found anybody else who likes that same combo of subjects. All my friends are like the complete opposite lol
I’ve heard the same about law though so I’m not sure what I want to do.

Do you know what kinda career you want to do in the future, or are you just picking what you enjoy?

i'm probably just gonna see where it takes me, i rlly like human geog so might do development/planning/urbanism or stuff like that. do you have any idea?

Heyy,

I'm currently doing GCSE AQA DT and really want a grade 9.
My coursework is due on the 31st of march
I really struggle with CAD drawing, if I hand draw all my designs and my final design is this something i will lose marks for?
also i struggle with drawing in general but if i do a mid drawing then write lots about it then could i make up for those marks?
Also in terms of theory, im kind of relying on it to bump up my grade because my coursework written stuff is really good but drawing is just not that strong.
Do you have any useful tips to revise all the theory and get maximum marks possible?

thanks so much x

coastal landscapes are SO hard at first, but you will get used to them! i try to remember stuff in 'sets' of 3 or 4, for example:
erosion: hydraulic action, abrasion, attrition, solution
transportation: saltation, suspension, solution, traction
depositional landforms: spit, bar, salt marsh

just remembering the words for each one will help! and then some of the words have connotations, eg traction -> tractor -> rolling along the bottom (like a tractor would)

time management is also rlly hard, everyone struggles with it so don't worry! my tactic is, do all the 1/2/3/4 markers first (from across the entire paper) and try and race through them. it usually takes me 40 mins which is rlly fast considering it's about 2/3 of the marks. and then, because i yap in the 8 markers, i do them last - each takes me around 10-15 mins. so then i'll always have abt 5 mins left at the end to check!

the specification is also SO helpful because it tells you exactly what you need to know, don't bother revising stuff that your teacher says if it's not on there!

from what my teacher said to us, it is fine, BUT try and put in 1-2 CAD drawings (could be really early on) to make it look like you have those skills if that makes sense.
if u have insta go follow marius.kindler he has loads of good drawings. and there will be tonnes of stuff on youtube! keep practicing this weekend until they look super, and put the best ones onto the coursework.
keep the pages drawing-heavy, having some writing is good but too much draws the attention away from the drawing, but that should be the main focus of those pages.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T WORRY about drawings not being very good. remember that the drawings stuff is only about 20-30% of everything. your written stuff is rlly good, and you'll at least get some marks for the design stuff, so please don't stress out about it.

theory: it's all about the application of things! look at the headings on the design spec in ur NEA. can you apply them to a given scenario? comparing different products? and the environment stuff. what are the implications of our actions? what does this do to nature?
we got taught a lot of the 'hardcore' theory eg the stuff in section A. and yes, you do need to know that, but think about everything else on the spec, and just how long sections B and C are!

remember key terms like:

primary/secondary research

one-off/batch/mass/continuous production

ergonomics/anthropometrics/ACCESSFM

health and safety precautions in the workshop (or equivalent)

pollutants from the workshop: spray paints, oil for polymers, felling trees, smoke from factories

and effects: global warming, habitat loss, acid rain, stuff like that

link it to the sciences as lots of that stuff is also in DT! and geog asw if u do it!
u got this!
