from what my teacher said to us, it is fine, BUT try and put in 1-2 CAD drawings (could be really early on) to make it look like you have those skills if that makes sense.
if u have insta go follow marius.kindler he has loads of good drawings. and there will be tonnes of stuff on youtube! keep practicing this weekend until they look super, and put the best ones onto the coursework.
keep the pages drawing-heavy, having some writing is good but too much draws the attention away from the drawing, but that should be the main focus of those pages.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T WORRY about drawings not being very good. remember that the drawings stuff is only about 20-30% of everything. your written stuff is rlly good, and you'll at least get some marks for the design stuff, so please don't stress out about it.
theory: it's all about the application of things! look at the headings on the design spec in ur NEA. can you apply them to a given scenario? comparing different products? and the environment stuff. what are the implications of our actions? what does this do to nature?
we got taught a lot of the 'hardcore' theory eg the stuff in section A. and yes, you do need to know that, but think about everything else on the spec, and just how long sections B and C are!
remember key terms like:

primary/secondary research

one-off/batch/mass/continuous production

ergonomics/anthropometrics/ACCESSFM

health and safety precautions in the workshop (or equivalent)

pollutants from the workshop: spray paints, oil for polymers, felling trees, smoke from factories

and effects: global warming, habitat loss, acid rain, stuff like that

link it to the sciences as lots of that stuff is also in DT! and geog asw if u do it!
u got this!

thank you so much!!

i'm probably just gonna see where it takes me, i rlly like human geog so might do development/planning/urbanism or stuff like that. do you have any idea?

Nah. I’m not really sure to be honest. For now, I’m just picking things I enjoy and seeing what I might like to do! Like, I know some things I don’t want to do but I don’t know what I do want to do if that makes sense.

PREACH. this is so real lol. plus, most sixth forms let u change in the first (half) term if u rlly want to - u could try some stuff out and then, if u don't like it, switch it early on before it's not too late

Yes exactly! Like there’s a taster day so I’m gonna try law geography and maths or something like that and see how I find them and then when I actually enrol I can pick whatever I like most!

Hey!
I'm currently in Year 11 and thought it might be helpful to do an AMA!
My subjects
AQA Biology - 8
AQA Chemistry - 9
AQA Physics - 8
AQA Spanish - 9
AQA DT - 9
AQA English Lang - 8
AQA English Lit - 8
Edexcel Maths - 9
Edexcel Geography A - 9
Edexcel Art Craft Design - 7
feel free to ask me anything about options, a-levels, gcse life, revision, work experience, coursework or just anything in general!

I'm y11 too and have no idea how to revise English quotes like how to pick what's most appropriate. We do aqa as well (An Inspector Calls, Macbeth, A Christmas Carol and Power and Conflict Poetry.). I missed chunks too because of illness and things like that so I feel like I don't know large bits of the text. Can you give me any advice? I currently get 6s/7s in mocks. I feel like I struggle most on the poetry as I don't know what to remember about the poems.

How did you get 9 in spanish and maths?? My mock grades were literally 999999988, with 88 in spanish and maths, which you got 9 in. Please share, especially with spanish!!!! I can help you with the rest in return if your want? (bio, chem, phy and eng lang/lit is what I share in common with you (I also do cs, rs, but these don't apply to you!)

these mock grades are sooooo good! i don’t need anything in return dw, but just out of interest how do you revise for english lang/lit?

for spanish i do listening and reading practice papers, and i’ve been using Duolingo for a while and it helps me with vocab. i have no idea how to revise grammar - i’ve always found it much easier so haven’t needed to - but everyone always talks down duolingo, if u struggle with vocab it actually becomes really helpful later on!

duolingo also has designated speaking / listening sections (might be a premium thing, idk) so even if you’re saying or listening to stuff that isn’t on the course, it’s still helpful to get the practice!!

i do these exact texts too!! i’ll help as best i can, but (despite the grade) i really struggle with english at the best of times.

i’m making mind maps for each of the poems! some are more in depth than others. i would choose 6/7 you want to do fully in depth. make sure that these are ones that you like, aren’t too long, and have lots of themes.

(mine: Ozymandias, London, Kamikaze, Remains, Poppies and War Photographer - but i also know lots abt exposure so might add that in)

for these ones do 5ish KEY quotes, context, key themes, and comment on the structure and form

for the rest, do a few key quotes, general context, know the themes, and just be able to recognise the structure and form.

for example, for Ozymandias i know tonnes of stuff. I met a traveller from an antique land, who said: (distances what they are saying - length of time/loss of power emphasised. antique - old)
and then the dramatic irony about the King of Kings stuff

i know NOWHERE near that much for most of the other poems. but that’s fine. remember that when the poem is given to you in the paper, it’s written out. so you don’t need to learn all of them in tonnes of detail. know 6-7 very well, and use them to apply knowledge to a given question.

u gotta know ur essay structure too! I don’t have afixed structure i follow to the bone but i try and do PEARL (point, evidence, analyse, reader, links) when i can. DO NOT neglect the effect on the reader, OR the context of a poem/text (not for unseen ofc). there are tonnes of youtube vids on english lit exam technique!

TLDR mind maps for poems, don’t get too in depth, structure answers properly

i only do the ones we do in class or for mocks! around once a week our teacher gives us an 8 marker to do (in class) it's so boring and we all hate it but it really does help! remember to do intro, for paragraph, against paragraph, conclusion.

in the paragraphs you gotta go for PEEL

point: what are you talking about in this paragraph? which coastal erosion defence strategy? which city's development scheme? (that's for edexcel A, might be different for B but same idea applies)

evidence: make up the numbers they actually don't care. as long as it's reasonable, it's ok. e.g. in 2015 the local government in Yorkshire built groynes across 10 miles of the Hornsea coastline, costing 10 million pounds but reducing longshore drift by an estimated 23%. you deffo need numbers here as these get u the marks

explain/effect: they just did that thing. what are the implications? e.g. As a result of longshore drift decreasing, the beach stayed intact, as more sediment was deposited there. This helped the tourism industries, as the amount of people going to Hornsea on holiday increased by 12.6% according to a recent survey. However, some view the groynes as being unattractive and unnecessary,

link it back to the question: Therefore, groynes are an effective way of preventing longshore drift and therefore boosting local economies in the UK.

u gotta yap!

do another one of those, going against the statement, then do a conclusion, and, depending on the command word, give your opinion/viewpoint. as i said earlier i always do 8 markers at the end, because otherwise i spend 20 mins on them, so you might want to do that if u struggle w time management.

i do this and usually get 7 or 8 out of 8! and if it's one of the SPGST questions, use tonnes of key phrases to make sure you get those marks too!
