A-Levels for biomedical science?

I was going to do bio chem and maths but I'm at grade 5 for maths and need a 7. I may not get that and I could struggle with a level even if I just scrape it. Would computer science be a suitable option? I'm predicted a 9 for it and it may link into my career, just not as much as maths.

Hi there,

As far as I know an a level maths is not a requirement for a biomedical degree - it may be preferred or one of the possible subjects to have as an entry requirement but that will differ from uni to uni! The majority I have seen ask for 2 sciences. You can do biology, chemistry and another subject and still get to do a biomedical degree. What I advise is to look at some potential unis you are interested in/courses and look at the required subjects at A level. Taking comp sci as a 3rd subject is fine irregardless for biomed - just make sure its one you will enjoy and do well in a level😊

Hoped this helps

From what I'm aware of, you actually don't need maths for anything biology related like medicine. A lot of people in my year chose a different subject they enjoy like history as it means they're more likely to get an A or A* in that subject.
There's a misconception that maths is required but it's not. I think it's cus it seems like a good combination of biochem and maths. In reality the most maths you'll do is gcse level.

You don't need Maths.

Bristol - AAA including Chemistry and one of Biology, Further Mathematics, Human Biology, Mathematics and Physics.

Birmingham - AAB to include two science A levels, including either Biology or Chemistry plus another from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics or Psychology

Liverpool - ABB including Biology and Chemistry

Northampton - BCC at A Level including at least one science subject, preferably Biology or Human Biology
