The Range Interview

Hi, I have an interview for the range next week. Has anyone had an interview with them previously and can let me know what to expect?
I tried searching online but there's not a lot of information.

Hi

Retailing jobs interviews are basically the same in every retail store.

So basically you may be asked the following for example ok....
1) why do you want to work with the range store
2) have you got any previous experience working in retailing ( experience not always essential but great if you have any).
3) if you come upon a irrate customer how would you deal with the situation
4) are you flexible with working various days and hours or are you just available for the hours you applied for. Making yourself available for all availability hours and days will give you a good chance of getting a offer.

You could possibly be asked to do something on the shop floor as part of the interview process.

Hey,
I'm not sure if you remember me but your advice helped me get the Boots christmas temp job back in October! I didn't get kept on unfortunately but I've got my interview for the range tomorrow and later in the week I've got an interview for Primark so I'm hoping at least one of them goes well!
I'm gonna do some more interview prep just to be 100% safe and ill let you know how it goes! 😀

hi 😌 😌

Omg yeah I remember you well with your temporary Christmas job at boots as you PM me about it as well 😜 😜. So nice to hear from you again.

I'm sorry you weren't kept on but that's really upto the store managers who they keep on after Christmas temporary jobs contract are expiring. I hope you enjoyed working with boots.

Good luck with the interview tomorrow with the range and use any experience you have already at the interview to give you the best chance. Wow Primark interview as well so hopefully you'll get offers from both jobs and then you'll have to make a decision ( if one is full time then take that one).

Yes prepare the best you can for the interviews and then all you can do is your up most best on the day 💖.

Look forward to your updates.....😊😊🤗🤗

Heyy,
I’ve just finished the interview.

Okay so I was late for the interview (by 5-6 minutes) but it wasn’t my fault.
I went to the bus stop get to the train station and the bus didn’t show up. The bus was due at 2:55 and my interview was at 4. If the bus had turned up I would’ve gotten to the town centre of my interview at 3:30 which would’ve given me enough time to prepare for last minute questions. The bus didn’t show up on the bus map but I didn’t think much of it as sometimes they don’t show up but they turn up. 20 minutes pass and the bus still didn’t turn up. So now it’s 3:15. If missed my train and the one after it. I was stressing so much at that point I’d called my mum (who’s was at work) cause I’d don’t know what to do. I tried to see if I could get an Uber to the station to get the next train at 15:29 but Uber said that it would take 18 minutes to get to me. I tried to see if I could get an Uber to the interview place and it said it’d take 20 mins to get to me and then a 20 minute journey still making me late. I was literally on the verge of tears and wanted to go home as I hate being late so much. But then another bus turned up. The train I got on was at 15:42 and got me to train station at 15:54. I was tryna see if I could Uber it to the interview place to make it at least on time but Uber took too long to connect me to a driver so I just ended up walking (it’s a 10 min walk). I got there around 1606. I went up to the till and the manager came. She complained that my interview was at 4 (her shift was supposed to finish at 4 but she’d stayed behind to interview me). I apologised and briefly explained issue with the buses. She let me interview and in the interview she didn’t seem annoyed anymore and I apologised loads of times and she said it was fine. The interview itself was really easy. She said it was her 2nd ever interview. i think the interview itself went well but obvs the lateness might affect my result. Tbh the hours are not too much for me so I’m not bummed if I don’t get the job but I just hope I didn’t leave a bad impression.

Also sorry for the super long message!

Hi
Well done you for at least getting to the interview dispite your travelling arrangements getting there.
I would have probably phoned the store to notify them that you where stuck in heavy traffic and you'll be there a few minutes late as better than nothing 😔 😔.

It's sounded like the interview person was in a hurry to get away home but you don't arrange a interview for anyone when you know that you finished at 4 pm but moan a bit about it when the person arrives 😂 😂. Sorry that's sounds bad management to me 😞...

Apart from that issue it sounds like you seen comfortable with doing it and it was easy enough but hopefully that this will lead to you getting a job offer 😉 😉 😉 ( did they say how long before you know about things).

Yeah I would probably be right yourself not bummed if didn't get it but it would be nice to get it after all the efforts you put in to getting there for the interview.

Hopefully your interview with Primark goes better than the range one as I think working in Primark would be better.

Don't worry about length of the message as you have to let out steam after today's problems. Thanks for letting me know about things ☺️ ☺️ ☺️.

The things I tried to call them when as soon as I realised there was absolutely no way to make it on time (about 20 mins before the interview was due to begin) and they didn’t pick up. And there was no option to leave a voice mail.

Anyway yeah I’m hoping the primark interview goes a better. I’ll update you when I’ve had it

Edit: they said I’d hear back on Friday.
They also said they’re not the one who decides who gets the job but the manager above them does. So it’s based on the answers I gave in the interview which she wrote down.

Hi
Good you actually tried to contact them in advance regarding your issue with running late. Unfortunately you sometimes get the store not answering anything although someone could be right next to the phone but they won't answer it for some reasons out with our control. I do think that employers should have a immediate system for someone to answer or take a message to perhaps contact you back adap.

Hope your Primark interview goes well and you are there plenty of time to relax and get yourself ready for questioning. I'll look forward to the updates.

Yeah that's sort of true regarding interviews - someone else might take the actual interview and then they have to then discuss all the interviews that where done with managers and then they decide who's the best people to employ..... Lot's of places do that which I really think it should actually be the store manager or deputy manager doing the interviews so that they know themselves who they are potentially going to employ.
Providing you gave them your best answers and did your upmost best then that's what matters to you and of course the rest is out of your control.

Have you tried again applying for a boots job 🤔 🤔 🤔....

Hope you are doing ok 🙏 🙏

Heyy, I didn’t get the range job but it’s okay.

I just had my primark interview. I think it went well. It lasted around 25 mins. I could see her score my my answers on the sheet and she gave me 4 out of 5 on all of them except one which she gave 3/5. So I think I did well but tbh I reckon there’s probably someone who will get higher and get the job though. When I was talking about my experience though she relate it to a similar experience that happened to her. So maybe that’s a good sign idk. She said I’ll hear back on Friday.

Edit: Even if I don’t get this job it’s okay cause I feel like I’m getting a lot better at interviewing so I feel like maybe I’ll get one soon anyway.
Also I realised I forgot to answer your last message.
I’m keeping an eye out for boots jobs as I’d love to work there again but they only really put of applications near me in August for Christmas temp roles.

Hiya

Sorry that you never got the range job but remember at least you made the effort in attending the interview 😞 😞 😕

Wow good you had the Primark interview, I think as long as you put over your response to them well enough then you have a chance but it's again out of your control.
Sounds good you got about 4/5 from each question asked which is actually good 😊 but yeah I agree with you that someone with higher marks may get the job ( just a fact for you - although someone might get a higher Mark in score at interview doesn't always mean they will get the job as you could have put things over better than them and get the job offer as this can happen).

Actually boots advertise all the time but they have 3 major staff intakes a year ( Christmas, Easter and summer) I would apply now and see how it goes as you can always keep applying for different jobs but do put down that you can work wed but you prefer working during the weekdays so you are putting yourself forward for a job more.

Just keep looking for a job 😔 😔 😔.

Remember you can always PM me anytime as well ❤️*🩹

Hi,
Mini update. I had a missed call from primark while I was in class and they said they wanted to talk regarding my interview that I had earlier this week. So maybe I got the job? I’m planning on calling back when I get home as then my mum can tell me what I need to say and yeah (8 get anxious on phone calls).

Hi
Thanks for updating me 🙂 🙂
That's typical of retailers phoning people when they are not available due to being in a school classroom ( like yourself was) they should actually call you at lunchtime perhaps.
Yes I think 🤔 that you will be getting offered a job if they are phoning you.

Hopefully it will be good news xxx

Hello 🤗 🤗

Wow may I congratulate you on getting the job in Primark as I said that in my message to you in reply number 9 that if you put enough information over then you will be in with a good chance 😜.
The more interviews you do the better you get and it's paid off for you now.
Hopefully it is permanent job for you or is it a temporary contract with view of getting a permanent job offer ☺️.

I'm going to have to come to that Primark store and see you working and see you in the Primark cute uniform haha 😆. The blue 💙 💙 top and black trim is cute as I said to my friend.

I would suggest that you get a size larger in the uniform tops as they are very tight on and it is better having a larger size than suffering 😞 😞. ( Know that from someone I know who works in my local Primark).

Induction will be fine and hopefully you will be okay doing it 😘.

Well done 👍 👍

It's a permanent contract so I'm very happy! Thank you so much for your kind words and support not only with this job but also the Boots one! It means a lot to me.
I'l make sure to keep your advice in mind on my induction day and I'll let you know how my induction day and my first proper shift go when they happen!❤️

Hi 👋 👋 😌

Good to hear that it's a permanent job offer you got as it means you have stability in employment and not worrying about if you will be kept on after a temporary contract is nearly up 🙂 🙂.
Go and celebrate your wonderful news about the job at Primark 🥳🥳🥳
You know that hard work with all your previous interviews with jobs has finally paid off 😔 😔. I think you deserve it 😉

Aww you are so absolutely welcome for all the " kind words and support I have gave you" as remember that it was you who did the hard work in attending interviews and trying to convince employers to give you a job and I only gave you some advice about it.

Thank 😊 😊 you 🙏 🙏 for the opportunity in helping you in some capacity 🙏. It makes me feel happy with you getting the job 💞 💞.

I'll look forward to your updates on how your life is working in Primark as you will soon learn the work involved there and also helping all the thousands of public coming in and asking you about certain clothing, just remember that you cannot learn everything on one day as it will probably take you a few weeks or so to learn majority of things there. ❤️❤️

There's nothing stopping you still applying for boots even if it's a few hours at night after school or half day as well as holding on to your new Primark job.

Are you working weekends or during the day ??

A good few years ago my friend actually tried to get me to get a job in Primark so I could work alongside her but unfortunately I was very happy working with boots as I have worked hard over the years there to get where I'm and it's a good atmosphere to work in.

Hey,
I just realised I hadn't replied to you. I thought I had as I remember drafting something to you but I mustve not sent it.
I haven't gotten my rota yet but its just 10 hours on the weekend (I'm not quite sure how the time will be allocated yet) which is good for me so I can balance A levels and work. I think I'll likely be doing overtime in holidays as well as bank holiday work which I don't mind.

Hiya 🤗 🤗 👋

Yeah I have done that as well with drafting something up to send to somebody but never did 😕 😕 it is easy done... Remember that you can always PM message me 🙏.

Okay thanks 🙏, you haven't been told what hours you will be doing but with you saying you are only doing 10 hours at the weekend - this would probably work out for you working probably two days of about 5 hours per day with any breaks you are entitled to on top as you are paid for the 10 hours okay, that's the only way I can think 💬 💬 🤔 you will work..... Similarly to working in boots for a 4 hour shift you are there for say 4.50 hours to allow a break but you are not really entitled to a break anything under 4.5 hours working. See how it goes when you know what happening.

Yes that sounds like a good idea with you working during any holidays and a bit of overtime as well...... I know that boots normally ask staff who in similar situation as yourself who works weekends if they want to work temporary full time during summer holidays as it's saves them paying overtime rates so be aware of this if Primark ask you okay and then decide what you want to do. Take as much time you can do working there during any holidays and give yourself some your time for studying for your A-levels.

Heyy,
I had my induction and 2nd day on this weekend just gone.

Yeah so I’m working 10 hours across Sundays and Saturdays— 4 hours one day and 6 hours the other.
The induction went quite well. we did a bit of training on tills as well as in the department I’d be working in.

Hiya 🤗 🤗 👋

Wow well done for getting through your induction and also on Sunday at Primark.

Well I wasn't too far out about amount of hours each day you would probably work but suppose the way they done it is to give you a short shift and a longer shift over two days.

Sounds like everything has gone well for you with induction and you'll be a expert now on tills ( it takes time to understand everything about working on the tills especially when you have to input manually a product code as scanner doesn't respond to one.

Hope you enjoyed your first weekend and looking forward to many more ahead 😀 😀 😀 xxx
