Management and Marketing degree at Newcastle university

Hi. Does anyone have any views/experiences (good or bad) on the Management and Marketing degree at Newcastle university? Is it a worthwhile degree? Are there good job prospects after graduation? My son is interested in a career in Marketing/business and he is interested in this degree.
Thanks.

Hi @Bev978,

While I have no personal experience with that university, I do have some recommendations of where you can get some additional information.

Firstly, check the university website to see any alumni's stories about their career now, as this may give you an indication of the types of roles your son could end up in once graduated. I also recommend researching into the potential career paths from this degree. You could also refer to the post-graduate schemes available for management and marketing graduates to see the opportunities the degree may give him, for example Aldi offer an excellent management graduate scheme with a competitive salary and perks. Websites like "RateMyPlacement" and "Handshake" have many graduate courses posted on there.

I also recommend attending an open day, this way you can get a feel for their campus. You can also ask many of your burning questions to their current tutors and students. Open days are an excellent for your son to decide whether the university is right for him and understand what his day-to-day experience may be like.

When it comes to deciding whether the degree is worthwhile, I believe it's an excellent stepping stone into a broad range of jobs. Personally, I'm a business and management student and before taking this degree, I never realised how broad the range of jobs I could end up in, for example I know people aiming to work in management, consultation, project management and market research. Personally, I'm using the skills I'm developing and taking an entrepreneurial route, while also having the stability to use my degree to gain employment if needed.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions 😊,
-Sophia (University of Central Lancashire)
