extracurriculars + motivation

soo ive heard alot about how its good to have them on your application for college (not sure abt unis but im pretty sure thats good too?) im in yr10 atm and, being honest, ive been so extremely lazy lately and im a bit behind on coursework for my textiles GCSE so ive just been lying around in my freetime not doing anything beneficial. ive just found a fashion designing course at AUB which would be beneficial as i can start to build my portfolio, however its almost £400 </3 i would probably pay for it myself so its possible i could go. is this a good idea and are there any extracurriculars i could do that could help me get into art/fashion design schools? i doubt it would be relevant if i do a sport

hey there! i’m starting uni (UAL) in september it’s a pretty good art/fashion school. don’t stress too much but i would say make your own personal projects outside of school & you could join youth art groups? i’m from london so it’s a bit easier to find creative extracurriculars but i hope this helps a tiny bit! 🙂

Hey @weemie!

It might be worthwhile to check out if there any local art competitions open for GCSE students. Entering competitions can be a great extracurricular, as they can encourage you to create unique portfolio pieces you might not have created otherwise and can act as an interesting talking point in your Personal Statement/interviews.

I'd also recommend checking out if there are any weekend/night classes at your local college or arts centre, as they tend to be more affordable than the courses offered by universities. When I was applying to university, I took a four-hour life drawing class at a nearby arts centre: it cost £25 and I had dozens of valuable portfolio pieces I was able to take home with me.

Hope this was helpful!
