How to Record live lectures

Hi, how can I record live online lectures on my laptop MacBook? Is there an unpaid version I can use? I’m after something basic, simple and user-friendly as I’m not that very good with IT.

Thanks

Are these university lectures? Have you checked that the university doesn't record them itself, in case some students are unable to attend? Many universities do just that.

Well, that's a shame. When I want to record an on-line video call (which is essentially what an on-line lecture is, albeit with more participants) I use a piece of software called OBS Studio, which you can download from https://obsproject.com/download.

I've only ever used the Windows version, but I can see that there's an Apple version available. It says, "The macOS release of OBS Studio supports macOS 11.0 and newer." Does that work for you?

Essentially you just point it at a particular window and ask it to record it. It'll then record everything which happens in that window (video, audio, you moving the mouse about to click buttons, etc.). However, it has lots of different features and options to configure how the recording takes place and therefore I don't think it would meet your requirement for "something basic, simple and user-friendly".

Having said, the Apple version may be easier to use than the Windows version. Oh, and it's free. (There's probably a paid version with even more features - I've never looked.)
