Pet friendly accommodation Nottingham Vet Med April 26 cohort

Hi, I'm a mature student with an offer for the April 26 cohort at Nottingham for vet med that I am currently leaning towards accepting over my other offer.

One of my biggest factors to sort out will be accommodation as I won't be able to use halls for my first year due to bringing my pets with me (medium-large dog and small furries). I know most vet students live in Kegworth after first year and accommodation options are sometimes a bit more limited for the April group, and need to be planned quite far in advance, so I was just wondering if any current April vet students have any advice please, especially with the pet friendly aspect in mind?

For example how realistic is it to expect I could find a pet friendly 1 bedroom rental to live alone in 1st year? Or would I be better off starting to try and make friends in advance so I could look into arranging a house share instead? Would any students in their 2nd+ year be likely to consider "adopting" a mature student fresher into their house planning for next year or are established house groups usually too close-knit for that? What is the best way to go about finding options this far in advance if they arent currently looking for tenants and therefore not on the normal rental sites?
Is there any kind of group/system for current students that want to "pass down" their houses/rooms once they move out as I know that is often a thing amonget students in other places? And are there any other areas nearby besides Kegworth/SB that would be worth looking at as well?

I do drive and will be taking my car, but would prefer to be as close to campus as possible - especially for first year as I'll already be starting a bit out of the loop when it comes to meeting other first years to make friends!

Sorry for the bombardment and thanks in advance
