Hi!:hello:
Here are some great ways to connect with other prospective students:

The Student Room (TSR) - This platform you're already using is one of the best places to chat with other future students. make a Thread and connect with other students at your chosen university.

University social media - Follow your chosen university's official accounts and connect with other students in the comments (Tiktok etc.)

Facebook groups - Look for official university freshers' groups for your year

Discord servers - Many universities have unofficial Discord communities

Instagram - Follow university-related hashtags and connect with other prospective students

Don't forget to check if your university has any official pre-arrival events or online meetups for new students. These are great opportunities to start making connections before you arrive on campus!
Remember to be safe online and not give out any personal or important information.

Hi there,

@University of Leicester has already given a beautiful response, I just wanted to add that there is also such thing as "The Ambassador Platform", where you could chat to some current students (like me for example) and ask any questions you want
Please have a look here: https://www.dmu.ac.uk/study/chat-with-a-student/index.aspx

Let me know if you have any questions,

Hey there!
Yes! There are loads of places where you can connect with other students before you start. Some options include:

Facebook Groups Many universities have official or student-run groups for incoming students! Have a look on your universities website to see if they have the links to any! They often have ones for your university / course / accommodation to help you meet people first!

Reddit The subreddit r/UniUK can be a good place to ask questions and find people attending the same university !

The Student Room TSR has university forums where you can meet others starting the same course or attending the same university.

Instagram & TikTok Make sure to keep up to date with your university through their social media platforms as these will have all of the latest updates on !

I hope this helps,

Hi there,

Social media groups such as facebook can be a good idea - but don't worry too much if you aren't finding a whole lot. There often isn't a lot before university starts, at which point you can connect with your flatmates, your coursemates and join whatever society takes your interest which will usually do both events and socials.

Again, don't worry too much because there will be loads of opportunities once term begins

Hope this helps

Hey!

As mentioned above, Facebook Groups, TSR and Reddit/Discord servers are a good place to start - however, as Amber pointed out, it can sometimes be difficult to find prospective students who are planning to study your course in those groups/forums either. Don't be disheartened and don't worry too much about trying to make friends at this stage; you'll get a chance to meet everyone on your course during Freshers'/Welcome Week, and course group chats tend to naturally form in those first few weeks as well. 🙂

Best of luck!

Hi there,

Like others have said, the best places to meet people before you start University will be on places such as Facebook where there will be lots of groups you can join. There will often be groups for your uni, your course and your halls if you are staying in university accommodation. I would join some of these and you will be able to meet some people and you may be able to then add them on other social media.

I think last year there started to be some group chats on Snapchat too so have a look on there and see if you can see any as you could always join some of these! I also saw some people on TikTok making groups so see if there are any TikToks asking where people are going to uni!

This (The Student Room) is also a good platform to meet some people and there will be people on here who post threads for specific universities so this may be a good idea in terms of meeting some people.

Going to applicant open days may be a good idea too as you might meet some people here who will be on your course or studying with you.

The Ambassador Platform is a good place to chat to students who are already at Uni if you want to get some more information on certain things at the uni such as social life or your course!

I hope some of this helps,

Lucy -SHU student ambassador 🙂
