Cheapest way to get a degree?

Hello,

What's the cheapest way to get a degree?

Also, can I I from level 3 fo level 5 then do level 6 top up degree or do I have to do level 4 then 5 then level 6 tip up degree?

Can I do PGCE or teach first training after a top up degree?

Unless you were to opt for an accelerated degree (which I'll come onto in a moment), the cheapest way to get a degree is probably via the Open University. You'd study from home (thus saving money) and their tuition fees are £7,784 rather than the £9,250 elsewhere. (I'm using 2024/25 fees in both cases).

You can't skip level 4.

An accelerated degree would be an option. They cover the same material as a normal 3-year degree, but cram it into two years instead. Each academic year is longer, meaning the annual tuition fee is more, but you only have to pay it twice. For example, for their accelerated degrees, University of Staffordshire change 2 x £11,100 = £22,200 rather than the 3 x £9,250 = £27,750 for a standard three-year degree. Again, you'd want to live at home, so you'd need to check what your local unis offer.

I'm not familiar with the requirements for PGCE or Tesch First training, I'm afraid.

Hello @kaidodestroyer,

Following on from @DataVenia's comment about accelerated degrees, there are many benefits to studying an accelerated degree, in addition to saving over £10,000 on tuition fees and living costs. You can achieve the same degree in a shorter time, employers value the focus and drive to achieve an accelerated degree, and you can complete an accelerated degree and a Masters in just three years!
