Interruption of University studies/Student maintenance

My situation is this. I am a first year student coming to the end of my first year and have recently applied for student finance for my second year only to be told i would not receive tuition fee loan for second and third year but would receive maintenance loan. This is because I completed 3 years of nursing nearly 18 years ago. I was aware of the rules of previous study, the whole 3 + 1 year thing but when I enquired with SFE they said it shouldnt be a problem as my previous course was funded by NHS blah blah.

Anyway, due to the situation I am in it loooks like I may have no option but to interrupt my studies whilst I save up the money for tuition or withdraw from my course completely.

I want to at least finish the year out so I can get the credits earned from the modules. With the next round of maintenance loan coming round at the end of April, will i still receive this if i make the decision now and request to end my studies by declaring my last day being 31st July (the end of the year according to my university) or would I be better off waiting until after receipt of student finance?

Have you checked with your university to see if they have any schemes (scholarship, bursary, etc.) which might be able to help?

If not, it would seem more sensible to wait until May to request an interruption of studies, to avoid the risk to your last maintenance loan installment.

Also, you might win the lottery between now and then.

Your maintenance loan is calculated to cover you through the summer holidays. If you suspend on 31 July, you would need to repay around 4-5 weeks of maintenance loan from your final instalment. Speak to your uni about suspending and ask if the formal date of suspenion can be pushed to the end of August.

Hi, can I ask what you are currently studying? If it's another healthcare related course, there shouldn't be an issue
