As of now do I stand a decent chance in getting into Oxford?

Hello all!

I've been heavily interested in studying PPE at Oxford for quite a while given my heavy passion for politics though I wish to learn more about the other two and increase my knowledge. Moreover, it would give me a major boost as it would provide me with more opportunities for my life.

However part of me feels that I don't stand much of a chance of getting into Oxford given my GCSE grades which whilst they were all passes, don't come close to Oxford's standards. For context, I got a 77655555 although this was during precarious circumstances as during the middle of Y11 my mental health decreased dramatically causing my grades to slump for a time not to mention that I needed to dedicate time to look after my Baby brother.

My A-Level Predicted grades as of now are ACC_ though this is likely to change soon given I haven't officially had mocks yet.

I understand that there are other factors (TSA, Personal Statement and Interview) though as of now I'm more focused on Predicted Grades to try and maximise them as best as I can.

If I could get any beneficial advice that would be amazing.

Thank you

You will need to pull up your predicted grades for A Level to AAA minimum. Without that, the chance of getting an interview is slim, so you are right that that needs to be your top priority right now.

GCSEs will be looked at contextually and if you do very well on the TSA then weaker GCSEs (with extenuating circumstances) may be overlooked.

Your GCSEs are lower than the typical successful Oxford PPE applicant. If you want any chance, you really need to get your A level predicted grades as high as possible, and do plenty of preparation for the TSA and Interviews.

I'm willing to go through with Sound's idea, that way my application will be taken more seriously.

That's a good Plan A, for sure; the FY would be in case it doesn't work.

Also, I understand that getting a place at Oxford is an aspiration of yours, but regardless of the outcome of your Oxford application I think you'll be able to secure offers from other good unis, assuming your A Levels are going better than your GCSEs did, so no need to think about these foundation year suggestions.

TBH you'll probably need very good A-levels (at least 2 A*) and a very good TSA, unless your GCSE's are contextual. Ik they don't specifically care too much about GCSE's, but considering how much lower yours are compared to the average applicant, I think you basically will need to go as high as possible with the rest of the application - you are at a decent disadvantage already.

That’s the aim. 2A*s or more, hopefully I get that otherwise my application journey will end before it even begins….

It sounds like you're being sensible getting your predicted grades up! Just beare in mind you will have to meet minimum requirements for predicted grades for it to be worth it (which are AAA). If you manage to get AAA definitely apply, otherwise try for the foundation year or apply next year if you do well in your final a levels! If you get the AAA then other things like extra curriculars become important. Goodluck!

Though your gcses aren't great it shouldn't matter if the rest of your application is strong - in ox currently and have a friend who got 5s in science and maths gcse and still got in

The standard offer for PPE is AAA. This is published on the university's website.
