FIRM MEDICAL SCHOOL - I can't decide where to go

I have offers for medicine at King's, Bristol, Imperial and UCL but I am so conflicted on what to choose as firm and insurance. If you can't tell, I love London. I went to a Bristol offer holder day and everyone that has been there loves it and the course structure itself is very appealing. If anyone has been to any of these unis for medicine or is firming one of them can you please tell me why - pros and cons possibly? Thank you!

Are any of your offers for lower grades than the others? Obviously if so, that would be wisest as an insurance choice (especially as you seem to be happy enough with any of those med schools)!

Sometimes some med schools will be flexible if you don’t hit the grades on results day and sometimes they won’t; someone my daughter knew got one med offer for A*AA but they got A*,A*,B (only 1 mark off an A) and they lost their med place. So I recommend being prudent!

I think I’m less worried about the grades and more about the universities/area themselves. Everything is A*AA apart from Bristol which is AAA but Bristol said that if you firm them and drop a grade they will still let you in - don’t know about the others. Thanks

These are questions I would ask. Where do you want to live for 5/6 years. Where are the placements. Bristol I know there are long placements far from Bristol and KCL you can end up with placements in Kent for a year. UCL very little contact with patients until clinical years imperial lots from the beginning. Bristol much more relaxed atmosphere than the other 3. Affordability as Bristol even with high housing costs still much cheaper than London which has v high transport and general living costs.

Hi there
My son got an offer for dentistry with QMUL and is still waiting for KCL. My son and the whole family are pleased with him studying in London. Students go to universities aged 18 with medicine degrees that are 5 to 6 years if they intercalate. You will change a lot as a person during these emotionally and intellectually. Hence, you need a place both on university and city level that will accommodate the new you. We lived in Bristol for 10 years, and Bristol city does not offer for me a great deal in social student life. London on the other hand beside being very big city is very vibrant and full of life. You are a bright young man, and if my son who chose dentistry was in your position, I would recommend Imperial as first choice. I know my friend's son is his final year and have a great time studying there. About the cost, things always take care of itself because parents will always chip in whenever needed. Good luck

If you had to choose between imperial and UCL which would you choose? My brother’s in the same predicament.

They offer a different student experience - different campuses different clinical involvement. It’s a valid question.

Hi
I think you mis understood me. It is valid question but very tough decision to make. But I offered my advice. Applicants would have done all the research before applying but no harm to ask on TSR because it is critical decision to make. Hence I suggest Imperial.

Im not sure. My brother goes to imperial and he loves it but is at south ken campus so expensive accom. When I went on the open days, UCL definitely had a more friendly atmosphere but, knowing my brothers friends at imperial, there are also really nice people there. I think UCL has full body dissection and imperial doesn’t.
