Hi, I got bored so I decided to make an AMA post about uni. For a bit of context I'm currently a student at sheffield hallam uni doing politics+IR w foundation year. AMA
What field of work do you plan on doing in the future?

What are the modules like in the degree?

I would like to become a policy advisor for the govt or other NGO's to gain experience then see if it is feasible to become a politician. I haven't started the actual degree modules for year 1 but for my foundation year it's mainly focuses on social sciences (sociology, psychology, geography and politics) I did psychology for A level so most of the psychology lectures are boring but the other lectures on the other subjects are really intresting (especially geography)

Hallam is great I highly reccomend going there (hallam isn't paying me to say this) . The thing (at least for me) I wish I knew is that I went to more events. I thought I would club a lot and when searching for unis at the time I put a lot of weight on nightlife when in reality it didn't mean that much to me and I didn't do much for freshers week. My top tip is that you should try and join many societies as you can to get friends and do something new. I wasn't able to join many societies because of tech issues at the time and that made me miss many society events. I went to the language society events and I had a lot of fun meeting people and the people at the gaming society are great. I wish I knew how to cook a lot more than I did at the time though. I've always been able to cook but I've learned so much cooking all sorts of stuff over the time I've been at uni. Also you should have budgeting skills. At the beginning I was spending £25 over a few days but now I average about £8-9 for weekly food shopping. If you want to go and do nightlife go to West street live (place on West street) or the Leadmill as they are the best places for nightlife. The only problem with the uni is that the student union building is always dead theres absolutely no one. The city is lovely but the only issue (Brum native) is that it feels small and you'll find out in the summer/spring that there is a lot of junkies in the city.

Thank you very much, that's all brilliant advice! I'm from a very very small town in Cornwall, so I think Sheffield will feel a lot bigger to me 🤣But that's brilliant thank you, I'll get my cookbook out 🤣x
