Part-time jobs whilst studying dentistry

Hello all,

I'm hoping to get an offer to study dentistry, starting in 2026.
I'm currently working full-time as dental nurse. I'd be entitled to a full maintenance loan in addition to a grant given by the university themselves. However, I want to be prepared as this still might not be enough to live off.
Has anyone got any experiences of working part-time as a dentistry student? What sort of jobs tend to be most manageable?
Does anyone do anything like tutoring, or just the typical retail/hospitality jobs?

Thank you! <3

Hiya!

It’s great to hear you’re hoping to study dentistry, have you received any offers yet? Fingers crossed for you! I’m not a dentistry student myself, but I just wanted to say it’s really smart to think ahead about finances and workload 😀

When it comes to part-time jobs, I’d definitely recommend looking for something with reasonable hours nothing too early in the morning or too late at night, because at the end of the day your studies should be your top priority. Jobs with flexible hours, like seasonal or zero-hour contracts, could work well.

I would strongly recommend for you to check if your university choices offer part-time roles for students. I’ve worked as a student ambassador at my university for three years and it’s been amazing, very flexible, great pay, and I’ve had loads of opportunities to build skills and meet people. It’s really helped me manage financially without compromising my studies as you sign up to work when you can.

I hope this helps

Hi - 2026 entry not 2025 🥰 so I will be applying in October!
Ah, yes this is what I did last time I was at uni but wasn’t sure if there was any specific advice from a dentistry student given how intense the course is!
The work at the university sounds like a great idea!
Thanks so much for your help
