Can anyone give me advice, I have offers from both Ed and Lanc for Fine Art and Fine Art and Design respectively and I cannot choose which to firm (the offer is ABB for both). I really love both for completely different reasons. Does anyone have any advice or could give me any insight into student life at either that might help me decide? Thank you
Daughter is in a similar situation but replace Lancaster with Loughborough .... Lancaster / Loughborough and Edinburgh are completely different and I have told my daughter to go on gut feeling as to where she thinks she will like to live for 3 years.

I am a 4th year Law (Study Abroad) student at Lancaster so feel like I can offer you some perspective regarding the nightlife in Lancaster. I like to say that the nightlife is small BUT mighty! What I mean by this is there may be less clubs/pubs/bars when comparing to larger cities like Edinburgh but I feel the ones we do have here can offer a really great time.
We have 4 main clubs in Lancaster, the main one that a lot of our students go to is The Sugarhouse, this is our Student Union's nightclub meaning that only Lancaster Uni and Uni of Cumbria students will be in there which is great if you want to have a fun night with people of a similar age. Our main club nights in Sugar are Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday is the day a lot of the societies will go out and dress up, but there are sometimes different events throughout the rest of the week too, such as Bongo's Bingo. Additionally, there are other clubs in the city, giving you the opportunity to experience different nightlife.
Along with the venues in the city centre, a lot of our colleges have their own bars/pubs on campus which you can use as well - some offer cocktails, food, pool tables, dart boards etc. I feel that the nightlife is what you make it at the end of the day.
There's also the option for non-drinking events. A lot of our colleges run events throughout the week that are suitable to everyone, as well as our 175+ clubs and societies that you can join based on your own preferences.
If you have any more questions you'd like answering, please feel free to ask away!

oh noooo! My goddaughter is at Lancaster and is very happy there, however, my son did a pre-uni residential at Lancaster and hated it despite it being a decent choice for his course. In hindsight he would have enjoyed easy access to the lakes but he didn't think of that at 17/18 ! Edinburgh is a beautiful city to live and study in can you have another visit before making your final choice? Are they both the same requirements and did the courses and workshops compare?

Hi @eleanorrrcm I would recommend visiting each of the universities on an offer holder day to get a chance to explore the campus, attend taster lectures and speak to academic and students and tour accommodation, as hopefully this will give you more of an insight into each university, and which one you could imagine studying at. Also, i would recommend looking at the different modules you could study on the fine art courses at each university, as they might have different modules dependent on what the specialisms within the department are. Hope this helps, and if you have any questions about Lancaster feel free to ask! -Jasmine (Lancaster Student Ambassador)

yes i’ve just been to lancaster and am going to edinburgh in april… just anxious to make a decision. definitely thought about going to the lakes as i go up to visit grandparents now anyway, and live to go paddle boarding. my apprehension is whether campus life might be boring. edinburgh is a lot further away and also im worried im wasting a year doing the extra 4th, but it is a lovely city and great for the course

Congrats and hope you enjoy your visit to Edinburgh too! There's over 150 societies which can keep u busy depending on how many you join, most happen on campus (other than some socials). We also have a gym, cinema, restaurants, some small shops on campus too. You also aren't restricted to staying on campus, a bus into town is currently £2 a single, there's a Vue, a theatre (The Dukes), Williamson park (which usually hosts the Highest point festival), escape rooms as well as the usuall shops and food places. Manchester is also only an hour away by train so a very easy day out to get to. Ultimately make the decision that you feel is the best for you, both unis and very good!
Hope that helps a bit, Rachel -Lancaster Uni Student Ambassador
