External student as an international student

I am currently studying as an external student and have just completed my exam. After numerous appeals, the university agreed to convert me to external student status. One of my professors mentioned that I could return to full-time status if I pass the exam. Is this possible? If I pass, will I be able to reapply for a Student Route visa? I find this situation quite challenging, and I need some guidance. Please help me out because no one in university is helping.
You need to speak to the visa/compliance team at your university for advice.

Unfortunately academic staff will often say things trying to be helpful without understanding the full rules and regulations
