Current Bristol Dental Students - Where is best to live for 1st year???

Hi,

I’m starting Dentistry at Bristol this September. I’m currently finishing my Access course and really excited to get started! As a mature student (25F) from the North, I’m completely unfamiliar with Bristol and would love some advice on where to live.

I’d ideally like to be within a 5-minute walk from my lectures, as I’m not too keen on commuting! Are there any halls you’d recommend for first-year students?

Any advice would be massively appreciated - thanks so much!

Hey Jeanie, Just saw your post and wanted to say I’m in the exact same boat I’m starting dentistry at Bristol this September too! I’m a mature student from London, currently finishing up my Access course. I got my offer at the end of April and I’m so excited (and a bit nervous too!).
I’ve also been trying to figure out where to live ideally super close to the dental school because I’m not a fan of commuting either. If you come across any useful info, I’d love if you could share and I’ll do the same! Hopefully see you in September, looks like we’ll be classmates!

Heyy Arian! That’s great to hear

I’ve selected my top 3 accommodations for Bristol now, I hope I get my first choice 😅 I just selected the ones that were the shortest walk to the dental hospital and looked like a nice place to live in. I also considered the price and how much of my SFE budget that would consume. Hope to meet you soon

Teaching moved from the Dental Hospital in September 2023:

"From September 2023, undergraduate teaching of dental students is moving from the Bristol Dental Hospital to a new site in Trinity Quay." (source: https://www.uhbristol.nhs.uk/patients-and-visitors/your-hospitals/university-of-bristol-dental-hospital/)

Information about the new site is here: https://www.bristol.ac.uk/dental/new-school-site/

Dental school is now in about the most des-res building you could find in the whole of Bristol. It's also a stone's throw from the nearest Wetherspoons. Us medics can only dream of having a dedicated building, let alone one right on the quay in a towering building that wouldn't look out of place in Canary wharf.

Don't think you're going to escape hospital completely mind, you'll encounter the medics in later years.

Get hold a reasonable anatomy deck and start your anatomy journey ASAP.

Best of luck with your Access courses. I did that and loved it! Prepares you well for the pace of Degree study.
