The Student Room Group

home fees

Hi
I have been living in the UK for 4 years and I am applying for universities.

I don't have british passport yet but would I be considered a home student if my dad is on Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) before my course starts?

thanks

Hi there,

What nationality are you and what is your status in the UK? How old are you?

Thanks, Drew

I am of Indian nationality, and I am on a skilled worker dependant visa. Currently 18 years old

Hi there. Non-UK national family members of a Settled Person (your father) will be eligible for fee only support if they are studying in England.

The following criteria must be met;

The Settled Person and the family member must have been ordinarily resident in the UK, and Islands for 3 years prior to the first day of the first Academic Year of the course

The Settled Person (your father) must be in the UK

The family member (you) must hold a valid status in the UK

So, if you meet this criteria you can only apply for the Tuition Fee funding unless you gain ILR before the start of your course. Thanks, Leah.

Does that mean I can be classified as a home student if my dad holds an ILR and I don't?

When you say Home Student, what are you referring to? Thanks, Leah.

I mean will I be classified as a home student or overseas student for university. Which fees will I need to be pay? Home fees or overseas ?
Just to clarify, SFE don’t determine your fee status, only whether you are eligible for funding.

The unis you apply to decide whether you are a home or international fees payer. There is guidance on the criteria used on the UKCISA website.

Yes I have had a look at the UKCISA website but I just wanted confirmation whether I can qualify as home or not

SFE can’t advise this and a uni would only do an assessment when they have a complete application from you.
