NTU or MMU for Marketing?

Hey everyone!

I’m trying to decide my insurance choice between NTU and MMU for Marketing. Both seem to have solid courses, but I’m currently leaning towards notts for the focus on employability but it has a horrible reputation so I’d love to hear from current students or anyone who knows about the universities. Thank you!

Both NTU and MMU have strong marketing programs, but it depends on what you’re looking for. NTU has a great focus on employability and industry links, whereas MMU is strong in digital marketing and creative aspects. If you prefer a more traditional marketing approach, NTU might be the better choice. If you’re interested in digital and modern trends, MMU could be ideal. Either way, you can’t go wrong!

Hi @Loisjones18,

It's great to hear you're thinking about Marketing at NTU!

It's good to remember you still have plenty of time to make your Firm and Insurance choices. If you've received a reply from all of your applications, you'll have until the 5th of June to make your decision, and I'd recommend taking the time you need to fully explore all of your options.

You're right in that all of our courses are designed with employability in mind - all of our students have the chance to complete a year-long professional placement, and, if that’s not your preferred route, you’ll still gain at least eight weeks’ experience working directly with employers through the live briefs, challenges, collaborative company projects and short internships coordinated with over 2,000 industry partners. You can also hear more about placement opportunities from Beth, one of our Business Management students.

I'd also recommend visiting any upcoming open days you can. As a previous student at NTU (2019), I found that attending an open day really helped confirm that this was where I wanted to study - I was able to hear directly from current students and staff about my course and Nottingham as a student city. Our next open day is taking place on the 26th of April, but there's also campus tours throughout the year and a range of virtual tours and guide videos.

I hope this helps, let us know if you have any questions!

Hi @Loisjones18

We’re pleased to hear you’re considering Man Met for Marketing.

You can find module information on the BSc (Hons) Marketing course webpage. Students have the flexibility to select option units that are of most interest to them and there is also an optional year-long industrial placement or the students can study overseas for their additional year which is definitely worth considering. You don't need to decide about that now, this is something you can arrange once enrolled on the course.

Our CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) accredited Marketing degree does include digital marketing modules, but I would say the programme is geared towards the general discipline of marketing, and in terms of employability our triple accredited Business School has close industry ties with marketing agencies, entrepreneurs, and digital marketing specialists, and we regularly host networking events and guest lectures. In your final year, students also have the chance to be mentored by industry professionals, which is a great opportunity!

Graduates from our marketing degree either go onto postgraduate study, especially as some to become more proficient in the digital aspects of marketing. Others go on to work in the creative and digital industries, working for marketing agencies, or in marketing departments within organisations companies such as Boohoo, Jack Wills etc.

If you haven’t yet visited our Business School and campus, I’d encourage you to come to our Offer Holder Visit Day next week as you’ll be able to meet with the tutors and current marketing students and get a real feel for the course as they run subject taster sessions. It’s the perfect opportunity to ask any specific questions you might have to make your decision about your insurance choice easier. If you've not yet had an invite to this event, please contact [email protected].

We also have an online student ambassador who is currently studying in the first year of our BSc (Hons) Marketing degree, so might be worth dropping them a message with any questions you may have. You can find her on our Ambassador Chat Platform
.
I hope the above helps and hopefully we will see you at our Visit Day next week!

Good luck
Mel 😊
