Hey, for anyone who is applying to universities and receiving offers right now, you may have joined a freshers group chat where people are talking about these specific events, and sending links to buy the tickets on fatsoma pages. From experience, don't buy anything now!!! Here's how to tell:
-These event companies have multiple full time employees - one of which is my friend - who have multiple WhatsApp accounts each and pretend to be real freshers in the group chats hyping up the event.
- They message (particularly girls) personally, pretending to want to be your friend, convincing you to buy a ticket. Don't! They are not real and you will never hear from them again!
-They will suggest a "big spoons pres" before their event (before sending a link to buy the ticket). Nobody suggesting this is an actual fresher.
-These events are real and not a scam - but there is no need to pay anything now!
In freshers week, everyone mainly goes out with their flat, other social flats in your accom - or people you meet at a flat party or something - not random people from a group chat. Just wait until freshers week and decide with them where you are all going out.
Most people you go out with won't have already bought tickets, and you will probably find better places to go out to (SU freshers week club nights are so popular). My mate told me multiple of these freshers events they helped run were dead, despite many buying tickets online from fatsoma. If you get to freshers week and do want to go, I promise you nothing will be sold out, and the price won't be more than like £15 - so don't stress about it and waste money on events you probably won't even attend.
Enjoy freshers week!
