AMA -gap year student:)

Hey, I'm currently on my year out travelling before uni, thought I'd create this "ask me anything" to pass some time on long travel days and help people out:smile: It's more of a general AMA really, for studying, gap year, or travel questions!

Bit of background, I got all 9s at gcse (English lit, English Language, maths, combined science, French, Spanish, geography and RPE) and A*A*A at alevel for geog, Spanish and psych, so I feel I'm in a good position to give some advice for any of those subjects!

I've just finished three months travelling SE Asia, visiting Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, so if anyone is wanting any tips or recommendations for travel, im happy to help with those too!

Where did the money come from!

So I've had a weekend/part-time job since I was about 14 and so managed to save a lot from that over the years. But the bulk of my travelling money came from working in my hospitality job from July 2024, when I finished Alevels, to the end of December 2024. I managed to save about 5k in that time, which has funded me for 3 months abroad

Oh that’s good, I’ve been working since nov and am finally at 5k but was unsure if it’s enough, did you get to travel comfortably? Hostels ofc, but some money for “entertainment”?

I only stayed in one hostel the entire trip, and that was only for only 2 nights 😭😭The entire rest of the time I stayed in hotels, I find them much safer and I prefer to travel comfortably. 5k was more than enough for hotels every night + food + entertainment &activities + shopping in SE Asia, it is SO cheap to travel there
