Art therapy allied health profession

Hello! I have been offered places to study art therapy this year. I’m really excited and have been working towards it for a long time. However I’m worried about funding tuition fees as I already did an MA (before I knew/considered art therapy) I’ve read that allied health professions can get a 2nd MA degree loan from student finance England, however it is vague and unclear if this includes art therapy? The way it is written suggests it should as art therapy is an allied health profession - but I’m struggling to find a definitive answer.

Thanks for any answers!

HI there,

Can you confirm the full name of the course, what university you will attend and the duration of the course? Is it a full time undergraduate course and do you already hold an undergraduate degree? When does the course start?

Thanks, Drew

Hello!
Thanks for replying. It’s a part time MA in art therapy that lasts 4 years at the university of Hertfordshire. During the course we will be having placements in a number of places but including the NHS.

There’s also an option at goldsmiths, which is 3 year part time course in Art Psychotherapy, with a similar structure.

Both courses lead to registration with the HCPC. Both start in sept 25.

I already hold an undergraduate degree, and art therapy is not available as a BA

Many thanks,

Hi there. Here is a list of courses that would be considered ELQ exception courses: https://www.heinfo.slc.co.uk/resources/guidance/courses-management-service-user-guide/eligibility/equivalent-or-lower-qualification-elq-exceptions/?alttemplate=printchapter&id=1454

For part time to qualify as an exception the course must be one of the following levels:

part time honours degree

joint honours degree

integrated masters degree.

An MA in Art Therapy would not be considered an Allied Health Professional course so it would not qualify under this. Nor would the part time Art Psychotherapy. Thanks, Leah.
