The Student Room Group

Can my student boyfriend and I move into the same Halls?

Both myself and my boyfriend are going to sheffield hallam in 2025 to study full time. Living together is nonnegotiable due to factors like anxiety but thats irrelevant. We ideally want to live in halls for at least the first year at university, would they let us both live together? ive seen people saying no as one partner usually isnt a student but we will both be students at SHU.

Unless they do mixed sex flats you might get the same building but not nesecerily the same flat. But even then uts not garunteed.

I know you say nonegotiable, but unless your living together now, i probably wouldnt suggested it as IF you were to break up it could make it awkward for you and the rest of the flat, pluss your less likely to make your own groups of friends and more likely to only hang out with each other, which again could cause awkwardness between flat mates.

Hey so! We're a same sex couple and already living together. I'm not looking for advice on whether or not we should live together- just whether halls will allow it

You wont be allowed to rent the same room, youd have to rent 2 rooms and apply for the same halls and try request the same flat but its not garunteed. Plus halls usually have single beds so have that in mind. You might get more luck with private halls, but again not always garunteed and for fire saftey youd have to rent rooms individually and likely be single beds

Some unis do let you have double rooms so if you aren’t 100% set on SHU you could consider somewhere else.
