Staying at Angel's Lane, London

Hi,

I'm set to start my Masters this September, and need to finalise accommodation before that. Has anyone stayed at / knows somebody who lives at the Angel's Lane residence in Stratford? Everything looks great here but I'm just a little concerned about the distance from KCL's Strand Campus (a 40-ish minute tube ride). Do you know what the easiest, most cost effective way would be to go from Stratford (which I believe is in Zone 2 or 3) to Central London (Zone 1)? Do you recommend getting a monthly Oyster Card? Are buses good?

To be honest, I'm considering Angel's Lane because even though other accommodations offer the same rooms and amenities, the cost is much lesser. But, does the cost of transport from Angel's Lane make up for its cheaper rent? Thanks so much

I am currently doing my master degree and living in Angel Lane. The residence is good. You can find everything you need for your living in Stratford. The only thing concerned is that it is a bit far away from Strand Campus. Since there was cyber attack incident when I came here and it lasted for a few months, I registered for a 16-25 railcard (I am much older than that as I am a mature student) and bought an Oyster card from the machine, then asked one of the staff at any station to link the oyster with the railcard. The fare is cheaper than that of pay as you go by 18+ student oyster. Alternatively, you can buy an annual student travel card.

How much would you say does the average person need to budget for travel within London?

It depends on how frequent you travel. You can check the fare on TFL website.

Hi, that's good to know! Stratford seems like a nice place. Do you travel to Strand regularly then? And thanks for the info about the railcard / oyster card. I'll definitely get the monthly or annual student travel card (is one better or more economical than the other, in your experience?).

I go to Strand every day as all my classes are there. It takes around 45min if you go to Strand campus by tube. The most economical ways are either annual student travel card or Oyster card linked with railcard. Pay as you go 18+ student oyster is a bit more expensive than that. I won’t stay in the UK next year but I would choose Angel Lane again if I were a student needed accommodation.
