Hiya! I finished my EPQ this year so hopefully this helps. I've applied for law and did a law based EPQ which definitely helped with uni offers and most importantly my personal statement (I could link in all my areas of interest and how it led me to my research question). If you want to apply for unis that give reduced offers for EPQ I don't think it really matters what subject you do it on as it is still half an A Level worth of work (my friend did his on gym supplement and is applying for finance). The most important thing is that you do it on a topic you enjoy and are passionate about! Its a lot of work and for me it was so rewarding at the end because I cared about my topic and the conclusions I came to. I really recommend doing the EPQ, and yes it helps if it links into what you are applying for, but any transferable skills are still valuable for your application.

I would also be careful because genetics is heavily covered in biology A Level that there is no overlap. You might want to check with your supervisor if it’s definitely okay. Also just to let you know, some unis only give reduced offers if the EPQ title is relevant to the course you want to do and you include it in your personal statement (but this is only a small number of unis, so I’d check if it’s any of the ones you may want to apply to).
