Bath or Bayes. Which is better for Business Management

I’m in the process of deciding which university to choose for my Business Management degree, and I’m in need of some help .

Right now, City is my top choice mainly because it’s in London, which I find exciting. However, I’ve heard that Bath has a strong reputation for Business Management and might be a better option overall.

Could you share your thoughts on the following?

1. How does the Business Management program at Bath compare to City?
2. What are the pros and cons of studying in London versus Bath?
4. How is the teaching quality and student support in each unis.
5. Any advice on how to weigh my options effectively?

Hi there!

Its good to hear you've received offers from those 2 great unis.

My advice would be to go for the one with the course you're most interested in and would find the most enjoyable to study.

I'm afraid I did not study business and so can't comment personally on how the programmes differ, but can say that Bath has a very good reputation for business and we also have one of the best industrial placement schemes in the country, which will add its weight in gold to your graduate CV.

I would say the main difference between Bath and London is sheer size. London is humongous, very busy and bustling/lively. Bath, however, is comparatively smaller, cosier and more rural, and whilst there is still plenty to do (coffee houses, shopping, street food, pubs, nightclubs, axe throwing) it has a much slower pace of life than London - it totally depends what kind of vibe you'd want! Both are fairly expensive places to live (London probs more so) but there is plenty of support to find affordable housing from Bath and there are plenty of places for students to rent. Also, if you wanted to visit London from Bath its a half-hour train ride and theres a station right in Bath city centre 🙂

Teaching quality - across the board Bath has fab teaching quality. We've just been awarded TEF triple gold (highest possible rank) for teaching quality and our lecturers are experts in their respective fields, many of whom active, recognised researchers. We also have really robust student support where everyone is allocated a pastoral personal tutor, access to short-term loans if you need them, private accommodation advice, employability support and free counselling and mental health support if you need it.

Advice to weigh up your options - visit these two places, speak to students/lecturers and think about where you can better see yourself thriving and enjoying. Also, look carefully at the course structure and modules and what each offers e.g. options and placements. Then think about the environment of where you want to be - huge busy city VS cosier and smaller city, and where you'd feel happiest.

I hope some of this helps (apologies for the long post!) and best of luck making your choice. Please do reach out if you have any questions! 🙂

Hello! Congratulations on obtaining offers from two excellent universities. You've probably researched a lot of information about your specific programme, so I'll share my own experience and some details that may help you make your decision.

- About the pace of life: London is known for being a bustling, energetic city, but in my experience, it's much more than that. In addition to the hectic activities in the centre of London, there are several parks for picnics on sunny days, as well as peaceful cafés, museums, and exhibitions to help you decompress after busy days.

- The average cost of living in London is high but also spread out to suit many different budgets. And with that comes abundant job opportunities. If you want to find a part-time job while studying, you will have many options. For a permanent job, London is a city many people turn to due to its greater opportunities and wider international integration, like other capitals.

- Being a student at City St George's, University of London, you will not only get financial, housing, and other support from City St George's, but you will also be eligible for the privileges of the University of London since we are a federation member. You will be able to attend events, seminars, forums, etc. held in London to learn, seek opportunities, and build a solid network for yourself.

I hope the information above helps you in some way as you envision your future life in London and at City St George's. My final piece of advice is to look for a place that will provide you with a good balance of studies, work, and life experiences so that you do not squander your student time while also taking into account the long-term potential the place may provide.

Best wishes,
Audrey

Hi Audrey! Thank you for your amazing reply. I’ also wondering about how the community at Bayes is in general. Sorry if the question is too broad 😅

Hi again!

Sorry I missed that! The uni community here is really diverse as about a third of our students are international.

In terms of sports and fitness, we're one of the country's top performing sports unis and host the main training grounds for Olympic Team GB. We've got a huge gym which you can join as a student for a discounted rate, loads of sport facilities you can book out for free to use as students (martial arts dojos, netball courts, tennis/badminton courts, squash courts, athletics tracks) as well as an olympic sized pool that you can use for free as a student.

We also have dozens of sports teams you can join at any level from novice to olympic hopeful as well as over 100 societies based on everything from different cultures/faiths to baking, coffee and curry to circus skills, anime, skateboarding, streetwear, to theatre, Latin dance, music to DUCKS!

Basically theres a lot of fun stuff to do on campus and we are very active in encouraging our students to get involved with all sorts outside their studies. Not only is it important to give yourself a break from your work but it also gives you more experience, helps you meet networks of new people and means you develop a more rounded skillset.

I hope that helps! Any more questions please just post away 🙂

Thanks and best wishes

Hi Audrey! Thank you for your amazing reply. I’ also wondering about how the community at Bayes is in general. Sorry if the question is too broad 😅

Hello! I hope I understand your question correctly. Bayes boasts a strong and supportive alumni network that continues to assist you throughout your career and life, long after graduation, which I consider a fantastic privilege. Annual gatherings worldwide offer alumni a chance to stay connected and grow valuable relationships. Most recently, in 2024, we launched the Bayes Alumni Awards to recognise alumni for their exceptional achievements.

In short, the advantages of Bayes extend beyond academics and your time as a student—offering access to unique and invaluable opportunities that last a lifetime.

For more details, you can visit https://www.bayes.citystgeorges.ac.uk/alumni.
If my answer does not satisfy your query or you have any other questions, I am here to help.

Best,
Audrey
