Firming LSE vs Cambridge Economics advice!!

Hi everyone, hope you all are doing well!
I was wondering if you had any advice on choosing a firm between Cambridge and LSE for pure econ.

If anyone who studies particularly at Cambridge/LSE could give some insights into the pros/cons of the student life/ teaching styles, level of career and academic support, and I guess some advice on how to choose or what you would do in my position, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks for taking the time to read and have a good day

I think that you would have way more fun going to Cambridge and living in your college than you would commuting to LSE. You may have years commuting to work in your future. For now, enjoy student life at Cambridge.

I add that living in college makes for a more studious environment than schlepping around on trains and buses, so your academic work may benefit from being at Cambridge.

Firstly congratulations for the offers! Huge achievement and you should be so proud. I'm not a student, just also an applicant but hopefully this still helps.

I think in terms of job prospects they will both be very similar, especially for someone with an awareness of economics as a degree who will definitely hold both universities with the same prestige. That being said I would never recommend you choose a place purely based on prestige. It's better to get a first from somewhere less prestigious where you enjoy the next 3 years than hating somewhere more prestigious and failing.

For career prospects again I doubt there's much divergence. Perhaps if your considering working in finance, being in London offers you more opportunity to get into the field and network but given this isn't my interest, I don't know much about this. I am just aware that more people at LSE are keen to work in finance so if this your goal being with like minded people is probably a pro.

Personally I think you should choose based on how you want to live as a student. The cities are very different - do you see yourself living in London or Cambridge? So for me, I like the idea of a small city, very walkable and safe but maybe you prefer the excitment of London. Similarly, at Cambridge it's much easier to form a community because of the college system whereas at LSE you would definitely have to put yourself out there and join societies. However, in London there are several universities so this definitely means you get a greater mix or students. So depends on your preference- do you want to be a part of a small community or a large one? Are you willing to put in more effort to find your people?

The biggest thing for me was the convenience of Cambridge. You have food cooked every night, so there's no pressure to cook for yourself. Accommodation is organised for you too, that's one less stress. But Cambridge will have lectures on Saturdays so how negatively do you view that?

Based on my preferences i would choose Cambridge but this is because I don't want to work in finance and I love the city, college system and the fact food/accommodation is sorted for me. But if I was wanting to work in finance and liked the idea of London I would choose LSE. You'll do great either way and I wish you the best of luck 🤞. Also hope some actual students at the universities can give you a response.
