Gcse - higher maths!!!

Hi guys, I have a really important question, and if anyone can answer it pretty quickly, that be so helpful.

So my school won’t let me sit higher GCSEs for maths which I’ve asked the many times to let me but they just keep refusing to let me see the higher tier for maths….

I’m 11 student and I wanna do biology and chemistry for A-levels but I have to be doing higher tier for maths, I won’t be able to do it because I need a grade 6 in order to do biology and chemistry and A-levels. but the teachers at my school will not let me try the higher people nor do it.

I’m i’m thinking, if I am not allowed to do higher tier I might have to do foundation get a grade 5 in and do other subjects for the first year 12 and In November, I will resit the maths GCSE higher paper again well not again, but like you know what I mean And then I will have to repeat it all year 12, which I don’t really wanna do so can anyone please help me out because I’m so stuck on what to do.

I want Go into medicine and I’m not sure if University will look at me if I have repeatedly a year just so I can do biology and chemistry. Can someone please tell me something or maybe another way I could get it because I don’t know and I’m so stuck, and I’m struggling so bad right now.

Bare mind , I haven’t applied anywhere else, but my own six form which is really bad but I did this to myself now. Either way. No other school is accepting me if I’m doing foundation tier.

Can someone please tell me what to do before tonight or Thursday !!!!!

What is the reason behind them not letting you do the higher tier maths? Is it because of your ability?

If you are really set on it I recommend taking this up with your head of year etc but right now, it's kind of late since exams are soon. If you can do the higher paper now, you won't have to do it later which is honestly what is recommended because a-levels are stressful enough without repeating a maths GCSE.

They won’t just let me, they belive that I’m gonna fail and I won’t pass and stuff like that. But if I don’t get to do higher I’m gonna have resit yr12 which I really don’t wanna have to do

It’s not a good idea to resit the entire year 12 because of a maths gcse. And not a good idea to do subjects you have no intentions of doing for two years for a levels.

It’s possible they won’t allow you to change to a higher paper now since exams are so soon and they teach different things there. The only thing I can think of is either hiring a tutor to quickly get you up to speed and telling your teachers about it and seeing what they say. It’s really important to speak now, don’t be afraid to explain your reasons. It’s just so soon until the exams.

OK good. What does your tutor suggest? Could you do the maths GCSE privately instead so you could do a higher level? Talk to your head of year and explain your future and how you have a private tutor? Ask if there's anything you can do?

Why don't ask your school if you can do a higher tier practice paper and if you get a good mark on it, they may enter you to higher (however it is possible that gcse entries have already been made but it's always worth a try)

If they do let you, I'm pretty sure you will have to pay a late or a very late entry fee depending on how quick it's done. You will have to pay a late entry fee at minimum. (100% of entry fee for AQA)

I think it's important to know at this stage that you need top grades to study medicine - AAA is the lowest entry requirement at A level. There is a HUGE leap between GSCE science and A level science, with plenty of maths in both Biology and Chemistry.
If you've only been taught Foundation Level maths, you won't have time to learn the extra units between now and the exams. However, if your tutor has already taught you this, you could enter as a private candidate instead. I'm not sure of the deadlines - a quick look on the internet suggests it was back in February, although I'd check with your tutor, who should be able to enter you. Check fees too and also a cancellation fee for your school, who would have already paid to enter you. (Fees aren't huge)
You've made several errors in your message - attention to detail is something which universities will look for in their selection process. I know friends who got 3 x A* at A level and were still rejected first time round, because they scored poorly on the UCAT tests (check those out).
Sorry to sound harsh, but I think it's better to be realistic and choose something which you find easy instead.

They didn't ask for advice as to whether they can study Medicine or not, so your comment was completely unnecessary. Also, it's Student Room, people don't need to write as if they are taking the UCAT. Telling someone who hasn't even sat their GCSEs (not GSCE, as you have written) yet to 'be realistic' - do you get a kick out of this?

💀thank you!!! I honestly looked at the comment and sighed when I saw them say “be realistic” 🤣🤣 I’ve got my parents involved and they are letting me do a higher exam on Wednesday and Thursday and will give me the results of Friday!!! I really hope I get a HIGH 4 or. A grade 5 INSHALLAH bc they will let me continue with it!!! Wish me all the luck

Student Room can be like that - I was told to reconsider doing a Law degree because my A-levels were poor, and had comments from people asking if I went to 'London Met' which from my understanding is considered a poor university on here.

I did well in my degree. Turns out, some law firms don't look at A-levels and I even got to the final stage for a role of a Trainee Solicitor at a national firm, contrary to what the toxic people on this forum has told me what my future will be like.

Good luck. You need to put a lot of work in - work hard and you won't regret it, no matter what path you go down - and you may surprise yourself

Ok, positive messages only. Good luck, hope you manage to get to sit the higher level and get a good grade.

Just in case you aren't aware, there is a test called UCAT, which you will need to sit in one year's time. This isn't having a go, it's just letting you know of the entry requirements for Medicine, since you mentioned that you would like to study it.

Hi, I’m in the same position as you but for AQA GCSE bio, chem and Physics.
I want to do higher, but they’ve put me in for foundation.
I was really bad and science but then over the Easter I’ve really worked hard and changed everything.
I’ll be bringing my work to show my physics teacher tomorrow and I have chem and bio on Monday so I’ll hopefully show my teacher the work for that subject then.
I’m really scared that they’re going to reject this. I’ve worked so hard and I’ve got my heart set on doing higher and getting top grades.
Is it too late now? - I’ve heard that I may need to pay a late fee?
I’m so so scared, any support or guidance would be highly appreciated.
