Harris Westminster

Hi everyone, I have a place at Harris Westminster for September 2025. Is it a friendly place to study? I have read a few negative reviews and I am now nervous about attending.

Hi! (I'm a student at Westminster) and I've got several friends from Harris. They say it's a great college, but quite competitive at times (and the food isn't great). But the pupils are extremely welcoming (as everyone else is new at 16+). However, depending on your subjects, you might be able to study at Westminster school which I can personally attest for is very welcoming.

Thanks so much - this is incredibly helpful. I will be taking History, Maths, Physics and Politics. Do any of those subjects get taught at Westminster?

Sorry for the late reply! Maths and Physics is 100% taught at Harris, but I'm not too sure for History/Politics. I know all the Languages/Music/Drama are taught at Westminster tho. I'd send an email to the front office just to double check

Hey! HWSF student 🙂 Students are really lovely, I’ve found my friends for life and I don’t think a better cohort could have been chosen. However, that’s not to say it isn’t heavily competitive - especially in the maths + physics departments. Teachers aren’t supportive, though. There’s very much an attitude of ‘get on with it,’, and if you can’t, maybe you don’t deserve to be there. The school definitely has its heavy flaws, but it has good aspects too.

Firstly, congratulations on getting your offer! Whilst it certainly doesn’t speak for everyone, I would say 60% of the year would say they regret their choice of going there, or feel it’s too much. I would just say it’s *a lot*, not even just on the academic side. There’s an expectation to invest absolutely everything - and your entire life - into the school, which doesn’t suit everyone. Personally, I think the pastoral care is limited, and mental health is (in my option) disregarded. The school is sold as being different from other schools - and it is. They do offer so many more opportunities than anywhere else. There are so, so many emails a week of opportunities in all career fairs, and the lectures are great. Honestly, I feel can’t decide myself whether the positives outweighs the negatives. For me, my sixth form at my previous school had a less than 50% pass rate, and so in order to do well in my exams, I didn’t have all that much choice other than to move to HWSF. However, I’d say that if your school performs averagely/on the higher end (even if it’s not quite as well as Harris) I would personally stay put. Feel free to shoot me a message if you want any more info - more than happy to share anything you may want to know

Hi, I was wondering what course you wanted to do in the future and how they have supported you with that. Additionally, if you know information about other schools that people tend to compare HWSF with can you point out what sectors they may be better at compared to their competitors e.g free periods or academic support. or worse at

+1. if youre already at an above average schhol id highly reccommend staying. you wont know until u come, but its likely to have such an adverse affect on ur mental health that ur grades might suffer. I wouldn't recommend unless u are either a prodigy or really motivated from a lower than avg school. The attitude from some of SLT is atrocious for an 'elite state school'.

Teaching really isn’t amazing and is hit or miss dependent on if you get a good teacher or not, and the workload the school requires isn’t consistent with the quality of teaching (excluding politics which I found good). School will kick you when you’re down, and does little to raise you up unless you’re already going that way in my experience . Could be fine for you tho, just my 2 cents
