medicine

Hello, fellow medicine applicants! I'm creating this post to acknowledge the amount of effort and sheer hard work that you've put into your application to medicine. No matter where you're applying, medicine is super duper competitive. It is an incredibly difficult process, and I'm proud of you for making this far. I would like to remind you (if you've forgotten in the process) that your hard work will never go in vain. Whether or not you secure an offer(s), you are still worthy. I genuinely wish all of you the best and hope you secure offers from your dream universities. But if you don't, don't worry. These rejections do not define you or your potential, and things will work out for the better. I know it can get a little frustrating seeing people around you secure offers, but remember that everyone's journey is their own, and your time will come. I would like to conclude by saying that the person who is reading this is absolutely capable of doing medicine, and they will get into med school if it is their dream. You got this champs! I'm rooting for you  ❤️

It's a brutalising process if you are not the brightest or the most academic; and the waiting and rejection can destroy you if you let it. As one door closes, another one opens. Make your own good luck, and be prepared to fail to win. Always remember if you work your socks off now, and just scrape by, the knowledge levels and exam pressures continue in medicine for decades. be ready for it. It's helpful not to have a relationship because it sorely tests it. Keeping your sanity is the name of the game, in work, in training and academically. So celebrate any science A levels, whatever your grades if you were one of the rejected, and if you are so determined to achieve something keep on trying. never give up till your back is against the wall and all is lost. There are many other ways to open doors to medicine and medically related studies, home or abroad. Take time to research them all, and examine in your vision what you see yourself doing, and where? Good luck out there.

I also want to add I was one of the majority that got 4/4 pre interview rejections last year. I was not the most academic, scraping around E’s and D’s at A level due to lack of motivation. I managed to get ABB for my A levels and despite being several grades below standard entry, I managed to hold an unconditional offer for medicine with a foundation year which is another route one can take (if meeting WP criteria). As someone who went through the application twice, it is brutal out there. From the UCAT, to personal statement, to interview revision, to waiting whilst everyone else gets offers for med. Many toxic, classist med applicants there as well who don’t wish anyone the best. But if your heart truly wants to do medicine, then you have to give your all. I learnt that it’s not academics that will get me to medicine, but sheer determination. Remember medicine is not a race but a marathon, and there are endless routes (internal transfer, grad med, undergrad etc). There are people who hold offers on my course that are on their first/second gap years and it shows that there is no standard route. If you are a medicine applicant and reading this, good luck and don’t give up if it is something you truly want!!
