I think I have written numerous responses to posts on gap years. At some point, I should really write an article on this.
See the following for ideas:

If you have specific themes for ideas in mind, let me know and I would try to advise accordingly.

I took a gap year and it was one of the best decisions I made! I worked for a bit, traveled to Thailand and Bali, and also did some work in France. It gave me so much confidence and made me feel more independent and ready for university life.
If you're considering one, I'd recommend:

Working Helps save money & gain experience.

Traveling Even if it’s just a short trip, experiencing new places is amazing.

Volunteering or work abroad A great way to meet people & build skills.

I don’t have many regrets, but I wish I’d maybe done an internship in something career-related or learned a new skill (like a language). Whatever you do, a gap year is a great way to grow and figure things out before uni! 😊

Hi @veeysleepyfrog

I also took a gap year before starting university in September and I can honestly say it was one of the best things I have ever done! I travelled to Thailand and Australia and I loved every second of it! Are you thinking about travelling or working or both?

Travelling gave me a lot more confidence in speaking to new people and made me more outgoing! I didn’t have any plans of coming to university before taking a gap year however halfway through my travelling I decided that university was what I wanted to do when I was home!

Whether you decide to work, travel, volunteer or anything else gap years are definitely a great thing to do to allow yourself time to figure out what you want to do next in life!

In terms of things I regret, apart from wishing I went away for longer, I would agree with previous responses to your question and maybe something work/experience related as that can really help further down the line!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, I hope my response has helped!

Thanks, Matt 🙂

Hi @verysleepyfrog

During my gap year I worked as a carer for about 6 months. Then I spent 2 months travelling around Europe before working at a summer camp in America. I did really enjoy my gap year!

I think doing a gap year also meant that I was a lot more prepared to go to uni because I had experience of being away from home and working. It is also a great opportunity to get experience in a career field that you are interested in.

Hope that helps!

Sophie.
