There aren’t many exception courses, especially if you want a maintenance loan.
What about nursing didn’t suit you? Most exception courses are health professions so knowing whether you would want to switch to a different health profession would help.

The OU has a range of second degrees that qualify for student finance funding, things like Biology, Maths, Cyber Security, Environmental Management, etc. (Nothing arts & humanities based though).
You wouldn't get a maintenance loan though if you're in England unless you're disabled.

At the OU? Or at any uni?
I have no idea about other unis.
At the OU you cannot get a maintenance loan if you live in England unless you are disabled, as I said. It has nothing to do with being a second degree, that's the same across the board for any degree.
You can if you live in Wales though. Possibly Scotland too, I'm not sure.

Physiotherapy
Occupational Therapy
Diagnostic Radiotherapy

Podiatry
I think there’s a few others

Or if you don’t want to study an Allied Health Profession degree what subjects are you interested in?

Of those only a part time degree in Maths would be fundable (in person not distance learning if you want a maintenance loan).

Have you thought about taking a masters degree instead?

Hey there,

If you live in England you can receive a Postgraduate Master's Loan for most courses, although you have to pay tuition and living costs with the entire amount of (non-means tested) funding. Some universities offer bursaries and scholarships, as well as different tuition rates for postgraduate study. Postgraduate courses typically last a whole year (e.g. October 2025-October 2026), or two whole years if part-time. Either way, it isn't a consideration to take lightly as you may need a part-time job (or three!!) to help fund your living costs and perhaps even rent depending on the area.

Finally, a Master's degree can be incredibly fast paced and intense academically, especially with other commitments - I would only do a Master's degree if you are absolutely sure!

I wish you all the best in making the best choice for you through any ups and downs!
