Is it worth picking foundation over higher in GCSE Combined Science?

I am currently on a 4-4 and my teacher has gave me to choice to move down to foundation or stay in higher, as of right now I don't plan on studying science after GCSE so I feel like picking foundation will let me focus my revision more on other topics that I want to take and relief stress. But I was wondering what if I change my mind and what to do science later on, can I still do it? I just need advice because I'm really stressed out right now, thanks!

Your ability to pursue something science-related will not be impacted by whether you opt for foundation or higher tier. However, it will likely be impacted by your grade.

So if you get a 4-4, it won't matter whether that was a foundation 4-4 or a higher 4-4, as it's a 4-4 either way. However, the tier you choose limits your possible grades. With foundation tier, you can't get higher than 5-5, even if you answer every question perfectly. Similarly, with higher tier, you can't get lower than a 4-3; anything below that is a U (ungraded).

So if you think you might be able to get that 4-4 to a 5-5, then you don't loose anything by switching to foundation tier. In fact you gain the option of getting a grade below 4-3 if things go wrong. However, if you think you might be able to push above 5-5, then that option only exists with higher tier.

If you decided to do something science-related after GCSEs (perhaps in your school's sixth form, if it has one), do you know what grade they'd expect you to have at GCSE?
