Bath Uni Accommodation Recommendation

I’m an international student that is applying for Bath this year and I’m researching about the accommodation beforehand. I’m aware that we can choose 7 options and the decision is randomised. I don’t need the Eat and Drink credit, and also don’t want shared or standard rooms (I prefer ensuite rooms). Moreover, the cost is not my biggest concern, however, I would love to know about budget friendly options that ticks all of the boxes above. It would be lovely if you guys can give me your opinions or advices regarding the accommodation. Thank you so much!

Hey there!

Awesome to hear you're interested in Bath and that you're thinking ahead!

Based on what you've said you're looking for, I think 2 that would be worth checking out for you would be Woodland Court and Marlborough & Solsbury Court.

Woodland
Non-eat and drink credit, ensuite. Beautiful quiet location surrounded by trees, up to 18 students per block, lovely comfy double beds 🙂 . £239 a week for 38 weeks (at time of writing!).

Marlborough & Solsbury
Non-eat and drink credit, ensuite. Located in the modern East side of campus on a green patch with a small path to the Lime Tree cafe (great pizzas) and the Chancellor's building where a lot of lectures are held, from 5-7 students per flat. £235 per week for 38 weeks (at time of writing!).

Accommodation I would not personally recommend would be the Quads (rooms very small), Polden (inconvenient location and very expensive), or Osbourne House (very nice and quiet but very out of the way of campus).

You can take a look at the other options right here - perhaps take a look at those and a few other options you'd be happy with for your list 🙂

I hope this helps a bit but let me know if you have any more questions!

Thank you so much for the advice, Holly! It has been extremely helpful! Other than the two accommodations that you recommended for me, are there any other suitable options - as we have to choose & rank 7? Moreover, may I ask a bit more about the ensuite rooms? For the accommodations that have both standards and ensuite options, is it possible if I only want to apply for the ensuite or will it be randomised (either standard or ensuite)? And I’m also aware that the contract is only 38 weeks (for most of them) so in the summer, (because I’m an international student) if I go back to my country then do I have to bring everything back or can I just leave it there throughout the summer?

Hi again!

The two I mentioned are the only accommodations available which have ensuite options but do not have eat and drink credit. If you're open to having some eat and drink credit then some other options you might want to look into are... Polden Court, and the Quads (very small rooms but flats do have lounges which other flats don't have!) - you could also opt for a city option such as Scala Court, Thornbank Gardens, Green Park House or the John Wood Building. You'd have to take a look at them and the rooms online to see if you like the look of any.

On your accom form, I believe you specify whether you'd like standard or ensuite and they do their best to allocate based on these preferences, so it will not be randomised - you can state that you'd like ensuite and that will be taken into consideration.

I think [email protected] would be better placed to answer your question about the contracts - but what usually happens is that all students home or international vacate their rooms for the summer, and then move into private accommodation in Bath city for second year. People usually have talks and discussions and make arrangements for this in about November-January in first year when you've settled in with your flatmates. Often people move into a shared house in Oldfield Park with friends from their flat or their course.

I hope this helps!

Its all expensive - and finding accomodation for 2nd and 3rd year is a nightmare. Second-homes, Airbnb and tourist lets have pushed the prices sky high and reduced the supply of 'normal' flat lets.

I’m not OP, but anyone know when Bath accommodation applications normally open/close? And if it’s a major issue if I only apply after results day?

Hello,

For firm offer holders accommodation registration will open on May 1st and close on July 1st.
All firm offer holders will receive an email from ResLife inviting them to register.

Accommodation is not allocated on a first come, first served basis.

If you are a firm offer holder you will need to register by July 1st though so don't wait until you've got your results in August!

Here's a link to the information:

I’m going to bath as my insurance (but I think I probably won’t meet my firm offer), so I wanted to know what it’s like applying in august, I know that I’ll get the “bottom of the heap” accommodation, but do you know how bad it will be?

Hi again!

First off, never say never - if your firm have given you an offer then they clearly believe that you are capable of meeting it 🙂

Applications for accom after 1st July are accepted on a non-guaranteed basis, but we'll always do our utmost to find people accommodation - this could be a temporary set up so you can come to the uni whilst we arrange a more suitable room for you.

There are never any guarantees with these things because we can't predict what will happen on results day in terms of people who have already applied for accom meeting their grades etc - but rest assured that whilst applying in August is a bit more difficult and you may not be able to get your first choice, things generally work out in the end.

I hope this helps a bit, best of luck!

a few friends on my course had bath as their insurance and ended up going there, they did all end up with city accom (as all campus accom mostly gets filled by firm choice applicants) which isn't necessarily 'bottom of the heap' as it's pretty much the same as rooms on campus. only difference is most ppl end up paying for a year-long bus pass (around £300-ish - worth checking cos i'm not entirely sure) as otherwise you have to pay £2.16 for the bus each way or walk up a massive hill, so as long as you commit to waking up a bit earlier than ppl on campus you should be fine. lots of ppl find living in the city more convenient cos you're closer to the shops, socials, etc. hope this helps!

When choosing your seven preferences for self-catered accommodation, focus on ensuite options without Eat & Drink credit. The most cost-effective halls include John Wood Building (ensuite shower rooms from £218 to £221 per week, £8,284–£8,398 for 38 weeks) and Green Park House (ensuite shower from £221 per week, £8,398 per contract). Marlborough Court and Solsbury Court suites are modestly priced at £235 per week (£8,930 for 38 weeks), while Woodland Court ensuite rooms cost £239–£245 per week (£9,082–£9,310 per contract). To maximize your chances, list these four halls as your top choices and fill the remaining three slots with similar ensuite options, such as Carpenter House, John Wood Court, or Thornbank Gardens, as backups.

Hi, was wondering if shared bathroom accom are as competitive as ensuite?

Hi, was wondering if shared bathroom accom are as competitive as ensuite?

Hi there 🙂

It really does vary each year. Shared bathrooms tend to be less popular than ensuites year on year but with the cost of living going up I expect that more people will be looking at non-ensuite options to save a bit of money. I'd say that generally ensuites are more competitive but when you submit your accom application has no bearing on whether you'll get your first choices as long as you apply by the 1st July 2025.

Personally I stayed in a shared bathroom block of flats in Westwood, Derhill and actually really enjoyed my time there. Not having an ensuite didn't impact my experience negatively at all and it meant I saved money. I'd defo recommend Westwood, Eastwood and Norwood House as budget-friendly shared bathroom options.

Hope this helps!

Thank you that helps a lot. I am looking for a shared bathroom to save money but was worried if they would allocate a more expensive option even if my top choices are on the cheaper side.
