Wanting to get experience with kids but can't cause of OU degree

I'm 22 years old and coming to the end of my 2nd out of 3 year degree with the Open University and I'm wanting to go into primary school teaching assistant roles (wasn't my initial plan when I started my degree but interested in doing it now) but I'm not sure what I can do while doing my degree (Degree is very flexible) and without a DBS check although I can get a DBS check if needed. I have applied for a role in a school but never heard back (probably because I don't currently have a DBS) but was wondering what I can do in my position. My work advisor is wanting to put me on an early years education level 1 course at a local college which would last a couple months in a few weeks but I'm also unsure if I'm even possible to do that since I'm already in degree level education right now. I just want some type of experience or some type of skills which would be helpful for me moving forward. Any help would be appreciated.

The School will get you DBS checked for any role. They (should) want to control the DBS process themselves, and shouldn't rely on one you bring in from outside.

There is nothing wrong with an OU degree per se. So the issue is, are you building a degree that fits your career ambitions?

If you are, then you just need to focus on refining your application technique and making more applications.

If your degree doesn't fit the requirements for the roles you want, then you need to think is there are different modules to can take and still pivot your degree int eh right direction, or what additional qualifications might help.
