Maths at Oxbridge!

Does anyone have any good tips and advice for someone who wants to go the Oxbridge or Cambridge for maths?

I do 4 alevels, maths, further maths, chemistry and physics, and they’re all at an A or above.

I did the senior maths challenge but only got bronze and that’s it for maths challenges.

I went to to a normal state secondary school but now I go to a grammar school.

My GCSE’s were good for my school but not exceptional.

Is there anything else that I should do?

There are supercurricular suggestions at
https://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/files/publications/super-curricular_suggestions.pdf
https://www.st-annes.ox.ac.uk/study-here/undergraduate/outreach/students/super-curriculars-and-resources/

Depending on whether you decide to apply to oxford (mat) or cambridge (step) there are
https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/study-here/undergraduate-study/maths-admissions-test/mat-livestream
https://maths.org/step/

So its probably worth cracking on with some supercurricular stuff and exam/interview prep?

Prepare for the entrance exams, MAT or STEP. MAT(Oxford) is taken in October (and i would honestly start looking at questions well, well in advance) and STEP is taken in June at the same time as A levels (Cambridge) so this should factor in your decision of which one to pick. You mention grades at A or above, you want to be getting A* in both Maths and Further Maths or else you're not going to get in. Also look at Imperial or Warwick if you're Oxbridge material, these are the next best two.

Is your school suggesting you apply? Have they started prep classes?

Imperial? No, I'd suggest somewhere else these days.

Anywhere tbh - it's so unsupportive and toxic.

I'd look at Bath, Leeds, Sheffield, amongst others ... as you need some with lower grade requirements

The prep classes are mostly focused around the TMUA and MAT.
I don't know about my school telling me to apply but I regularly attend Oxbridge sessions at my school and I think I have good enough grades to get in.

Well that's fine at the moment as you won't probably be ready for STEP yet.

Start early with prep for MAT, after Year 12 mocks and over the summer is prime time. STEP has the Foundation Modules which can be completed over the Year 12 summer.
