Assessed to get more than min, but way lower than expected

Hello, I submitted my application just 2 weeks ago and I have already recieved a response, for 5.9k maintenence loan a year, I do not think this is correct as my household income is about 33k a year, and according to the calculator I should get over 9k a year.

What should I do?

If this is the first amount then this is the basic loan amount for your course (it might be above the normal minimum if it’s in London or if the term dates are longer than normal).

It takes an extra 4-8 weeks for SFE to do a household income assessment

Its for oxford, my place isn't confirmed yet because its conditional but its outside london and the term dates are pretty short so I don't see why its above minimum?

It might be some other factor pushing it up slightly. Either way it is not going to include a household income assessment if this is the initial award.
If it doesn’t increase by end April then contact SFE using the online chat to check

I called them , they said its based off my income being between 25000-60000 but wont tell me what they have it down as unless its my parents calling so it definitely has assessed the income but I believe they've assessed it wrong

are you sure that your household income was £33k in the tax year that's used for assessment (2023-24)?

If it was higher in the past but has now dropped to £33k then you can ask to be reassessed on more recent income information

It sounds like you need to speak to your parents to look at what they submitted

Hi there,

Yes, it's definitely worth asking your parents if their income is expected to drop by more than 15% in the 25/26 tax year. If so let us know since we can use this to assess your Maintenance Loan instead.

Thanks, Graeme

Hi there, we can look to reassess the application if there has been a drop of 15% or more, however, this would only be possible after the current tax year has been completed.

Once completed, your sponsors (parents) can submit a Current Year Income submission via their online accounts for to request this review.

More information can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/support-child-or-partners-student-finance-application/current-year-income

Thanks, Stephen.
