Should I accept my unconditional to Aberdeen?

I’m in S6 who achieved AAAAB at higher and AAAAAAAAB at Nat 5 and i’m currently studying three advanced highers and a higher. Partly because i applied on the UCAS deadline date, i’ve been rejected by Glasgow Edi and strath. I missed the LNAT deadline for glasgow. And strath/edi said there were limited spaces. However i’ve got an unconditional from Aberdeen. This is good but i’ve got my sights set elsewhere. What would my chances be if i took a year out and applied to the same unis with an LNAT result and all my grades AND applied early? Would I be able to get in to those places?

If you (a) have reasonable grounds to believe that you could do well in the LNAT, and (b) have a viable plan for a gap year that does not just involve applying to universities, then wait and apply for admission in 2026 at your favoured universities. Good luck!
I would agree with the above poster that there's nothing wrong with looking to take another year before uni, especially if it means that you're choosing the university that's right for you. Applying again next year shouldn't count against you as many people take a year out and if you can use it to get some additional experience then that will benefit your application when you go to make one. There's obviously no way to guarantee but it's sounds like a good plan if you decide that taking a year out is right for you.

Hi I’m gonna tell you my honest opinion because I’ve just been through something really similar

Okay I’m also an s6 who achieved AAAAB at higher and I got AABBBB at Nat5 (awful year LOL ur nat5’s r wayy more impressive). I got 23 on the lnat. I’m non contextual, but I have extenuating circumstances and took part in and passed reach at Glasgow due to these circumstances (can tell u more about what they are if u wanna know but it’s a bit extensive)

Here were my decisions
Edi - rejection
Glasgow - unconditional
Aberdeen - unconditional
Dundee - unconditional
Strathclyde - rejection

I think you seem like a very promising candidate so I’m sure you’d get some of those uni’s next year, but for Glasgow the lnat means a LOT like I’m telling you if you have one unlucky day even if ur a straight A student and do bad on the lnat you might not get in (which is js awful imo)

*next year I think you’ll still be dealing with a lot of competition, it seems like every uni put their standards up this year for the 2007 birth spike and a lot of people didn’t get into their top choice, and will reapply

I think you have to consider why it is u rly wanna go to Glasgow/edi/strath. Strath, in my opinion but I might be biased is just not as good as Aberdeen. Aberdeen is much higher ranked. Edi & Glasgow r both about the same, but again I don’t think they’re really much better than Aberdeen.

Before I got my Glasgow offer, I was gonna go to Aberdeen probably and I thought about some advantages of it. One advantage of going to Aberdeen is that I’ve talked to admissions a LOT like the law admissions and they genuinely seem so kind, staff are always on top of things and get back to you so quickly. For Glasgow and edi I did not receive this same kind of support or genuine kindness, so I think if u go to Aberdeen you’ll be very well supported. Another advantage of Aberdeen is that you will likely get traineeships much easier than Glasgow/strath students simply because there’s not as much competition in the city and around it, so you might even be able to qualify quicker than Glasgow/strath students who haven’t gotten a traineeship first time around.

Ultimately, it’s really up to you. I think my extenuating circumstances and taking part in reach got me my Glasgow unconditional but I DID see someone with the same Lnat and same grades that was non contextual get a Glasgow offer, so your grades are 100% good enough. I’d also consider when u acc wanna qualify as a lawyer. For me, it wouldn’t have been worth taking a year out because law school is already a VERY long process, adding another year just wouldn’t have suited me.

Well for me the Aberdeen offer was unexpected yet welcome. It’s not that I think it’s a bad uni or it’s not good enough, it’s just that I live in Glasgow and going to Aberdeen would be a big move for me. Most of the people I know are in Glasgow so going to a place like Aberdeen would be alienating.

I don’t doubt i’d make friends. I don’t doubt it would be a great uni. And if I accept I might have a better time than I would anywhere else! However it’s just the fact it’s my only option and I would rather reapply and have some room to breathe than accept because it’s the only one I can accept ifykwim
