Student Finance Eligibility Issues

Hi everyone. I'm a British citizen by descent who was born abroad and moved to the UK at a young age. After one of my parents passing away and the family spending years in the UK, we had to move back to the country where I was born because of visa issues with my surviving parent. Needless to say, I had to stay abroad until I was an adult and old enough to decide to move back to the UK and go to university, because my surviving parent couldn't afford visa payments to live in the UK. Because I was not living in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the academic year, I was found ineligible for a loan. The appeals and Independent Assessment processes dragged out, only for Student Finance to stand by their decision to not give me a loan.

Going to university is very tricky now.

Does anyone else have a similar experience?

Thanks for any replies in advance.

If you deferred your course for a year, would you have the three years?

SFE has to implement the rules set by the government for student finance.

No ……. It would be 2 years if I had deferred it…

Hiii...I just wanted to know if you ended up deferring your studies or did something else? I might and might not be eligible for Student Finance because of my visa so I'm trying to see if other people are going through something similar.

I didn’t defer my studies, I am registered and working and paying my university fee in installments.
Harsh reality I don’t want to waste my years just because of student finance .

Yeah, I get what you mean. It sucks. Glad you found a solution though!
