defer offer and still apply for other courses?

Is it possible to defer an offer to next year as a backup while still applying for other courses at that time? I have an unconditional offer for the UAL Foundation, as well as two BA course offers from GSA. Ideally, I would complete the Foundation first and reapply for my preferred UAL undergraduate BA course next year. However, if that doesn’t work out, I would also like to have the option of accepting one of the GSA offers. Can I defer one of them to keep my options open, but still apply to a UAL BA course next year?

Any course that has used UCAS the application process must be rejected before starting up a new UCAS application. You cannot have two UCAS applications running at the same time and the current one only ends when you have rejected all offers

Basically as above: no. If you reapply for 2026 cycle then you can’t do that while holding a deferred offer from the 2025 cycle.

You could speak to GSA to see if they have any policies to reinstate offers if you reapply. They might be willing to reassure you.

Are you sure about studying foundation at UAL? There’s been reports of disorganisation and poor student experience since the move to Lime Grove. There are other London based providers offering a FAD (or providers outside London) that might provide a better student experience. UAL FAD have missed the January UCAS deadline for the last 2 years (both times submitting over half of the FAD students applications a few days after the deadline).

Is this true? Did UAL FAD actually miss the January UCAS deadline for their applicants? They promise a guaranteed place in one of their BA courses upon successful completion of the FAD, so how does that work in this case? Has anyone experienced this?

it's true
For applications to UAL that didn't matter because UAL can chose to consider late applications at their discretion but it may well have caused issues for applications to other universities

Edit: Actually I've gone back and checked and they managed to submit most of them on deadline day in 2025. In 2024 more than half were after the deadline which would have impacted their chances at many of their non-UAL choices
