Paramedic Science Course

I’m currently doing Medical Sciences at Worcester Uni, but am switching to Paramedic Science. I’ve heard so many bad things about it at Worcester so just wanted to gather opinions, such as if the teaching is good, and if you feel ready and prepared (both knowledge and practical skill wise) for placements and as a Paramedic. So if anyone could give me their opinions / what they have heard it would be amazing:smile:

Are you starting first year in September? Saw some negative reviews mainly from the covid times. But as long as you go into it knowing it's an intense course I think it'll be fine. Started looking into anatomy and physiology already as it seems to be where most fall down. I'm going to be very anxious to see how the placements are though.

I’m currently first year, but when I transfer I will go back to first year. I’ve been doing anatomy and physiology this year and I rly enjoy it, and have wanted it in more detail so I do think I’ll enjoy that one. But I do know it’s a hard course, I’ve spoken to loads of people but I was always going to go into a healthcare career

See another thing I’m worried about it I’ve seen people saying they don’t feel ready for placements/some things they spend like 5 mins on and never go back to it so on placement they don’t know what to do, but I rlyyy want to stay at Worcester as it honestly is such a nice place

We'll be in the same cohort then I think, if you're already at the uni of Worcester there is a society for paramed which I'm looking forward to could be worth joining this year to get more info. You'll definitely be ahead with the preexisting study though!

Have you done anything clinical before? Saint John ambulance might be worth considering if not, event first aid is basic but gets you used to working to a method and talking to members of the public, in terms of practicing skills I think it's on us to find the time to rehearse them not sure if the paramed society do extra skills practice but could be worth looking into. Worcester looks like a brilliant place and I think study is easier somewhere you're comfortable!

Ohh I didn’t know they do extra skills practice so that’s rly good. And I haven’t in ambulance specifically but I have done GP and hospital work exp where I have done practical things. St John’s wasn’t rly available by me/I was never able to do it as I didn’t have the option

Awesome! I'm not sure if they do extra skills sorry but could be worth asking current members,
and you definitely have experience with the public then! From what I've read first year placements are more focused on being able to engage with the service users and being able to take detailed histories more than using clinical skills so your experience will transfer over
