Best University for MSc Electrical Engineering

Hello colleagues, I'd like to study a master's degree in Power Systems at the University of Southampton or Birmingham. I'd like to know which has had a better reputation in the field historically. Also, if you have any better options, I'd be happy to hear them.

For electronics/ electrical engineering, it's Southampton all the way! It has a stellar reputation in both fields and Southampton grads are sought after. My daughter has a Masters in electronics from Southampton and had multiple job offers from well- known companies on graduating.

Hey student

It’s great to hear you’re considering a master’s degree in Power Systems.
Between the University of Southampton and the University of Birmingham, both are strong choices, but if we focus on your goal of specialising in Power Systems, the University of Southampton might be an especially good match.

Southampton has built a very strong reputation in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, consistently ranking among the top universities in the UK and globally for this field. Their academic strength in Power Systems, Energy Networks, and Sustainable Technologies is well-recognised.

Also, outside of study time, Southampton is a great place to live. It’s a student-friendly city, not too expensive, and close to the coast if you like the sea. We have so many society you can join, very interesting and you will meet your friends of life here. There’s a good mix of things to do lots of parks, shops, and places to hang out. And London’s only about an hour away by train if you ever want a change of scene.

Good luck with everything sounds like an exciting plan!

Best wishes
