Failed a module

Hi guys, I’m at UON and was just wondering if I failed a module (and can’t resit) but the module is compulsory-can I not progress onto year 2?

First year does not count towards overall grades.

I don’t know if it’s whether it’s compensatable or not.

Thanks

Which UON?

Why can't you resit?

When you say it's compulsory, do you just mean that it was compulsory to take it, or that it's compulsory to pass it (sometimes called a "must-pass" module)?

You will have to resit unless you receive a condoned fail, you will almost certainly be offered the (discretionary) condoned fail if you can however if it is a core/compulsory module which is a prerequisite for modules in 2nd or 3rd year you will most likely have to resit.

You will probably have to do the resit over the summer semester with assessments typically in July & August, if you fail the second attempt the university will either be unable to progress you thus you cannot register for future study (essentially you leave the university) or a 3rd attempt via resitting the year, whilst it is standard policy at most universities to have one resit attempt for a failed module further attempts are generally entirely discretionary & often require extenuating circumstances or mitigating factors as to why your first two attempts were not a fair reflection of your performance.

The best place to review is your universities undergraduate regulations (sometimes these are in the “student handbook other times online), after thoroughly reviewing if you’re confused you should discuss with your tutor & if you still need support engage your students union.
