Simple answer to your question is NO - not allowed on placement but you might get away with it at university study weeks depending on your course leaders.


You don't want to scratch any patients, so make sure your nails are short enough to be safe and comply with infection control practices (this will be the focus of some skills sessions in your first semester). You must also not wear any kind of varnish or gel or have nail extensions.

Can you have acrylic nails as a nurse....
Avoid artificial nails: This includes acrylics, gels, and dip powder manicures. Skip nail polish: Chipped nail polish can harbor bacteria. Clean under nails: Scrub the undersides of nails with soap and water every time you wash your hands.
