Should I change schools?

Hello, so I am wondering if I should change schools for sixth form. I am currently in Roedean School and got an offer from Nonsuch High School for Girls for sixth form starting 2025 September.
Reasons for leaving Roedean: Too expensive especially as my dad’s current employment situation is complicated
Reasons for not leaving: I’m emotionally attached…. (And we could do some budgeting/sacrificing other things to make it work?)

P.S. Any tips on how to get emotionally unattached?

Hi there,

I don't know these sixth forms personally, but I thought maybe I could offer some advice.

If you're considering the new sixth form but are not quite sure, you could see this as a fresh start for September. If you're planning on moving onto uni or further education after sixth form, moving somewhere new now could also be a nice transition to get used to a new environment. And it can be exciting to try somewhere new as you never know what new opportunities there might be or who you might meet.

Although it might be hard, I would try to think about your possible move to a new school in a positive light rather than as your 'only option' given your personal situation. I think it would help you to see the new sixth form as a new opportunity, rather than a place you 'have' to go to. So if you do end up choosing to go there, it will feel like a positive decision you have made.

Have a think about why you're attached to your current school and why this is making you want to stay. This might be friendships, you've enjoyed studying there, or simply that you're familiar with the school. All of these are perfectly good reason to stay there, especially if you have friends who are continuing at that school. But be reassured, that you will be able to make new friends if you end up moving too.

I would have a chat with your dad too to see how they feel and plan together what will be a good option for you both. I understand that this isn't necessarily just a decision about where you prefer as you consider other circumstances, but do try to think about where you will be happiest too.

If it's any reassurance, I don't think either choice is a bad one, and both will offer you new opportunities while you study your A Levels.

All the best. 🙂
