Nursing student schedule

I’m organising child care for September but unsure what example hours to give the child minder. Out of interest what does a nursing students schedule look like in the first year, I know there is 2 x 5/6 weeks placements but what about uni times?

Programme total: 2300 hours theory 2300 hours placment over 3 years. This works out as roughly 770 hours/21 hours of each per year.
My first year, I started with a theory block, alternated between theory and practice, and had 3 placements (2x6 week 1x8 week. That was a fair few years ago; my current students alternate between theory and practice and have 4 placements in 1st year (3x 4 week, 1x 8 week). Theory/uni spells tend to be 9-5ish Monday-Friday in 1st year with fewer contact days and more personal study days in 2nd/3rd years; some of these days when you have lectures may be online learning/lectures via teams meetings rather than in person.

Hi I’m stuggling to understand what did you mean by 4 placements or 3 placements. You mean 3 weeks or 2 blocks of 6 weeks throughout the year. Would that be 12 hours shifts? Could you instead of doing long shifts could you ask for split shifts 7-2?

No, I definitely mean 4 placements over 1st year and they're not the same length of placement. 3 lots of 4 week blocks an 1 8 week block. 4+4+4+8=20 weeks over the year.
Note that in my first reply, I said that students need to do roughly 21 weeks' practice a year and if students did only 2x6 week blocks over the year then they would all be 8 weeks' short of practice time.

If the placements are in hospital, yes it's 12-3 hour shifts. You can ask for shorter shifts but it depends on what the placement is able to offer and it's easier to split shifts with day shifts. All students need to experience 24 hour care; night shifts on my ward are 8pm-8am but days are either 730am-830pm or 730am-230pm or 130pm-830am.

Thanks for that. Is uni 9-5 every day mon-fri full 8 hours. If you are on placement, do you have to do essays while on placement?

Its probably best to ask individual unis, as my uni is very different to the students Emily has.
We do in first year:
Around 12 weeks in uni, then 10 weeks of placement (split into 2 as we have christmas and exam week in the middle) then around 10 weeks maybe in uni, and then another block of placement.
Then second year is sort of opposite, and 3rd year is the same as first. So each year we have 2 blocks of placement and 2 blocks of uni
